TV Tower

Description

Located on Alexanderplatz in the heart of eastern Berlin, this 1960's structure towers over the whole city. Built by communist authorities at the height of the Cold War, West Berliners cheekily christened the TV Tower 'the pope's revenge' because of the sparkling cross which appears on the pinnacle of the tower when the sun shines on it. Although regarded by many as an eyesore, the views from the top are hard to beat. The revolving restaurant 207 meters (679 feet) in the air is a pleasant spot to stop for a coffee and a sedate gaze over the city.

Berlin rocks!
By ,
I lived in Berlin for almost 5 years. The tower is one of the places I visited very often. Most worth is during clear weather, when you can see most of the city, and the tower rolls nice and slow. Very much worth the time and money.

I've been in the Fernsehturm in summer, and during Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market). The view is spectacular as the restaurant does a complete revolution every 20 minutes. Food was above average, service was acceptable, atmosphere terrific, especially after dark. Close Window

Relax with fine food
By ,
The view is great, of course. But the dinner in the revolving restaurant is also a wonderful experience. The menu is in German and English and a typical entree with salad is 13-15 euros. Tables seat five very comfortably and it's pretty classy. The elevator to the observation level is 8-euro and then you walk upstairs to the restaurant. My group came at sundown and saw the city lights change below.

Don't overlook the TV Tower
By ,
A local I stayed with took me first to the radio tower-Funkturm- and then to the TV Tower. I was glad I didn't miss these sights because the view from above seems to bring history to life. The informative audio tour at the TV Tower cost 3 Euro and was worth it. I'll never forget drinking coffee in the cafe and watching Berlin move below me. This was a classic adventure--don't miss it when you're in Berlin.

A view to remember
By ,
What I liked most about having visited here in both day and night, is that the sights were both as amazing as each other. Visit during the day and view Berlin from the skies, visit during the evening and see the city lit up in a million lights. Well recommended.
