Cafe Zapata

Description

Located on the ground floor of Tacheles, the legendary squat-turned-cultural centre, Zapata is a weird, wonderful and way-out establishment typical of Berlin's alternative scene. Decorated with metal and barbed wire, tins and trash art, it is all fairly surreal. Snacks such as are available all day, as is a decent selection of beer. The place really gets going in the evening when hundreds of people gather to chat, flirt and dance. Don't miss the beer garden in the summer. Prices range from EUR2-2.50 for beer, EUR2.50-3 for wine, EUR2.50 for champagne, EUR1-2 for hot beverages and EUR3-4 for breakfast.

Best Place Ever

It's the most joyful place I've ever been. I strongly recommend to anyone going to visit Berlin. The beer and enterence fee is very cheap. Definitely promises for great music. It is a relax and free zone in Berlin.

2nd visit, fantastic atmosphere, cant wait to visit again !!
By ,
I first discovered Cafe Zapata when I stayed in a nearby hostel for a few days with friends. We found it to be the most interesting bar around, fantastic atmosphere, good people from all over Europe enjoying a great night with no trouble at all. Superb ! Re-visited again this week (29/5/08), once again superb and exactly the same as my last visit. The barman on the 3rd floor bar was brilliant, a real character ! Andy, Leicester, England

Wonderful place and people. Excellent music.I just spent an evening there, I haven't tried the food because I didn't know it was a restaurant too.I think that everyone could enjoy it, mainly young people.

Viva Zapata!!!!

Forget trying to locate a venue like this in the UK - health & safety, planning officials and every conventional nanny state minded derrr would want it closed down! Set in a partially destroyed building, which is now home to artists & designers, eateries and avant garde cinema; this bar reflects a gritty realilty based on heavy duty (literally)home made furniture set in a forget the wallpaper and check out the cracked plaster space with a fire breathing dragon (real fire so if you happen to be like very tall you get a free singe with your beer!)host live entertainment most nights. So if you are into art, graff, funky design, eclectic music and hanging out then don't miss it!

3 Nights

Freakin LOVED this place - went there 3 out of 7 nights in Berlin, live music, awesome bar(s) - not so much just Cafe Zapata but the whole building and courtyard too (it used to be an old jewish department store) now squatters are in it and theres 2 cinema's a steel shop next door an art gallery upstairs and a few different bars. on the top floor (the 6th floor) they project images onto the building across the couryard (where there is now a beach-bar). didn't eat there, half a litre of BECKS was 3 Euro, but if you go across the street to a kiosk you can get it for 1.50 and bring it back in.

Mediochre Food, Indifferent Service
By ,
My wife and I recently had dinner at this place - I sincerely believe the "artist" area known as "Tacheles" should be torn down. Full of truly awful people welding bits of metal together to create "art" to be sold in malls, pretending to be against the establishment. Cabbage and Leek Soup was almost inedible, salad was served wilted and with an insipid & sugary dressing. At some point the waitpersons disappeared. Avoid this restaurant.

coolest joint in berlin
By ,
Its a squat and bar. I didn't eat there, didn't seem like a restaurant to me, more like a cool night club that was packed till 6 in the morning. Very hip but casual. good looking crowd and bartenders to boot. totally fantastic.

rubbish

Cafe Zapata is the worst restaurant I have Ever been to. The service was pathetic, the food was under-cooked and tasted awful and for the price it was it was a waste of time and money!

A different place to visit
By ,
Is very nice place, is not a usualy bar, it has its own personality. And is not only the Caf but all the building. My advise, if you visit Berlin you must to go there.
