Cafe am Neuen See
Berlin's biggest beer garden is idyllically located on the banks of the lake in the heart of Tiergarten park. Cafe am Neuen See is a traditional Bavarian beer garden that serves up southern German specialties (pretzel, white sausages, roast pork and meat loaf), as well as standard European dishes such as pasta, pizza and barbecued meat and fish. A large beer should help you wash down the hearty food. The garden is illuminated by hundreds of candles flickering on the tables.
Place has a wonderful ambiance, and the food is tasty. But for a 7 Euro pizza I would have expected to be satisfied. My tummy needed a second 7 Euro pizza, and the drinks weren't exactly cheap. The pizzas are deceptively small(but tasty), with very very thin dough, and meager toppings they aren't worth 7 euros, but then again, you're not going for the pizza, you're going for the atmosphere...
What made our time here so special was that we stumbled upon it accidentally. We got deep into the Tiergarten and suddenly there it was! Lovely location right next to the water. I had Kloster Andechs Hell on draught - very nice indeed. Food was nice without being sensational. Next time I am in Berlin I will seek it out (weather permitting)
A really cute place in the middle of Tiergarten park in the center of Berlin. The lake is really more of a pond, but it is nice. And, there's even a sandbox for the kids to play in.
Eating pizza in a beer garden was kind of weird, but it was good and the prices were reasonable. If the weather is good, this is absolutely a great place to go.
Sitting at the edge of the lake (Neuer See) in the center of the beautiful, green Tiergarten, with a cold beer and marvelous food, you feel so far away from the city while being so close.
This cafe has a charming Biergarden which is especially wonderful at night time, when hundreds of candles illuminate the night. The woodfired pizza is fantastic, as are the pretzles and sausages. Paddle boats are available to rent by the hour. This is not a fancy place, no dress code, so you can wear whatever you like. Many people stop by after taking a walk through the Tiergarten or after visiting the zoo. So the crowd is a nice mix of people, all ages. Dogs are welcome, too, but must be leashed in the Biergarden. Parking very limited. Taking public transportation is highly recommended. (S-Bahn Tiergarten or S/U-Bahn Zoo)
