This is where Auguste Rodin spent the last years of his life, from 1908 to 1917. Since then, his superb sculptures and private art collection have been housed here at the Rodin Museum (Musée Rodin). There are a number of sculptures in the garden, including his best-known piece, the Thinker. Trees provide welcome shade and the benches placed beneath make these peaceful surroundings the perfect spot for meditation and relaxation. An annex to this museum; the Villa des Brillants, which the artist bought in 1895; is located in Meudon. Call ahead or check the website for hours of operation.
This is a smaller museum and much of the works are outside in the sculpture garden. The museum is in a former private residence, so there are stairs to climb and some small spaces to navigate. We went on the first Sunday of the month and discovered that admittance at museums is free on the 1st Sunday.
I have loved the Musee Rodin in all seasons. The story of his life and his sculpture and the site where so much of it is displayed is a peaceful and wonderful interlude in the bustling city.
It is an especially great place to take children if they are with you when you visit Paris. It is mostly outdoors and has a small cafe with good food, beverages and big windows for viewing the gardens.
A favorite place for me.
What a beautiful place with beautiful pieces of history and artwork. From the Thinking Man (way smaller than I thought it would be) to the Kiss!! Wow!! Bring a baggete and enjoy the gardens on your lunch. Inspiring!
I love going to Musee Rodin. It's such a lovely setting, a secluded mansion with a large garden to relax in. It's filled with all of Rodin's important works, including of course le Penser and les Portes de l'Enfer - both of which are outdoors near the front entrance.
Take a stroll in the gardens on the sunny afternoon. Sit down at the cafe and have a drink, or an ice cream. It feels great and real relaxing.
I just loved the Rodin museum. It was just great. I went in June and the garden was in bloom, so it smelled great. His works are amazing.
The only problem I had was people sitting behind statues that I wanted to take pictures of.
My wife & I have investigated numerous Parisian art museums:
--Musee de l'Armee (Invalides);
--Petit & Grand Palais;
--L'Orangerie & Jeu de Paume; &\r
Our favourite, however: Musee Rodin. Hotel Biron is a delight, with "The Kiss" being its flagship. The grounds are worth the price of admission, featuring 2,000 rose bushes, representing 100 varities; here you will find "The Thinker" with the gilded dome of Les Invalides as a back-drop.
The art was great amazing scultists and old and amazing paintings. If you stay for a long time you may get tired and want to sit down and eat or have a drink there is a cafe on the site of the musse de rodin!
I was no a fan of sculpture before I visited this museum and now I love Rodin and Claudel. The house has a great collection and is of great architectural interest but like a lot of sites in Paris, it hasn't been upkept as well as it deserves. The statutes and paintings are wonderful and the atmosphere is great, especially in the garden. Eat at the cafe in the garden, where you can sit under gorgeous trees and soak in the atmosphere. Loved it so much I went twice in four days and its top on my list to visit again in a month.
