Paris Canal, Paris

Perhaps not the first thing to do when visiting Paris - a ride on the St Martin Canal is one of the most memorable ways to spend half a day. It combines many of the views of the more popular rides with a certain lovliness and charm. A time under the streets of Paris - beginning at Place de la Bastille could be dull and dreary. But put a guide with knowledge and the ability to play a clarinet on the bow and it's magic. Time going through the old locks still operated by the hands of real people, views of tree lined streets with a peek at the Nord Hotel, and a destination for one of the more interesting and modern parts of the city make this ride something to remember.
