Well-known British restaurateur Terence Conran has chosen the heart of Paris's chic Odeon district as the spot for his first cross-channel venture. Varied, sophisticated cuisine with an emphasis on French food; Grilled Lamb with Mint, Potatoes and Spinach Shoots and fish is served in the vast, sumptuously decorated room on the lower level. Upstairs there's an ultra trendy bar and lounge, where an international line-up of DJs work magic on the turntables. A small, exclusive private room is available for hire (minimum 14 people).
The food was gorgeous and so was the cocktails. The service though was absolutely appalling! To start with it was very slow and it took us almost 15min to get our drinks. It continued like this and we had to wait for butter, bread etc for a long time. In the end it got even worse when one of the male waiters started to act very stroppy and rude. He refused to serve us our wine just because we had a question about the taste. When we were due to pay he disappeared with one of our credit cards for almost 10min. When we asked about this he got really aggressive and accused us for not trusting him etc etc.
It was a shame about the service because the food was so good and the place had a really nice atmosphere. The bar upstairs had lovely cocktails and good music, a perfect way to start a Saturday night!
A quality meal - but you could end up feeling ripped off
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/24/08
The quality of the food was very good, although a main course of 2 small sea bass fillets with some fennel, meant opting for a potato side order.
Service? Having been shown to our table and settled in, we were promptly moved to a different table. Generally the service was good but during a busy period some of our white Sancerre was poured into an identical glass containing mineral water.
Watch out for the the catch on the set menu pricing that will leave you feeling really ripped off. At the bottom of the set menu it appears to show the value of each course, leading you to believe that you can swop one course for something of the equivalent value on the a la carte menu. NO!
You will be charged for the whole of the set menu, even though you won't get all 3 courses, plus the cost of the a la carte dish. This increases the cost of the set menu by some 25-50% depending on which course you decide to swop - this is significantly more than going down the a la carte route from the start. When questioned, the waiter confirmed that this was correct and, judging by his replies, we were not the first to query it - not at all the sort of sharp practice one would expect from a Conran restuarant.

It was great! I had the time
of my life with and atmosphere
to definately remember. And to top
it all off, the food was absolutly
top of the line quality, with an after
taste to make even the fullest people
want more! Strongly recomended!
I thought this was a good restaurant, and I will go back. First class service, they greet you at the door, check coats and such, then seat you. We speak very little French, and had few problems. Excellent service throughout.
The food was very good. Not the best ever, but very enjoyable.
I can't remember our bill, but I think you are looking at 150 Euros or so for two if you order ala carte.
Upstairs is a lounge. They had a live lounge singer on the Saturday that we went.
Old is truly gold. La Fontaine de Mars, with its old chequered tablecloths, lacy curtains and wooden doors, retains the
old world charm. The ambience is cozy and warm, serving authentic French food. Get a taste of Parisian delights ...
Founded in 1903, this majestic tearoom is definitely worth a visit, maybe two in fact. Try the Chocolat African, the
