Deux Magots (Les), Paris

The ambiance in the cafe, the view of the old church, and the "theater of life"=(people watching) is really unique... The first time I went was over 30 years ago and by then I had heard about Les Deux Magots from my parents, who met each other in Paris! When women lib came around in the 60s, The Second Sex by Simonne de B, was quite a hit as were the writings of JP Sartre, and it was quite thrilling to be sitting in the cafe where many of the discussions and writing took place. Additionally, the whole area is quite artistic and about 200 yds away is a small but dense Greek community with pleasant restaurants and cute little shops. It is a place to go and spend several hours both in the cafe as well as inn the neighbourhood.

I have visited Paris every year since 1989. Lunch at Les Deux Magots has been a must each trip...sometimes more than once. It has always been lunch because the sidewalk dining here is unmatched...even on some days the weather was clearly too cool to be out. The food and service have never disappointed, but the location is indescribably delicious. Having brought a dozen groups to Paris over the years, I always select several of each group to have lunch here. It is gratifying to see Americans taking a 2 hour lunch and loving it ! I have Les Deux Magots on my 'Favorites' list, so that a vicarious visit is a mouse click away. PW

Really enjoyed the ambience. We have been to Paris several times but this was our first stay on the rive gauche.We didn't have a meal in les Deux Magots, although I wish we had, instead we ate in the Cafe de Flore and had our only encounter with a surly Parisian waiter (in spite of the fact that I spoke good French and treated him with respect.) The coffee at the Magots was very good, the service efficient and the waiter pleasant.

Les Deux Magots is a cool little spot to stop and have a nice coffee break, Paris style. It is overpriced, true, but you are there to sit in one of the trendiest corners in the city, chill and people-watch. The food here is not bad at all, at least much better than at Cafe de Flore just down the street. The whole outdoor caf� scene in Saint-Germain is definitely not to be missed.

I loved the atmosphere of people watching, sipping cafe, talking with friends and just being in the middle of it all.
