Pied de Cochon (Au)

Description

Open day and night all year round, this restaurant with its pretty flower-filled terrace is without doubt one of the district's best-known eating places. Once popular with Les Halles market stallholders, little has changed since then and the restaurant has managed to hold onto that old-fashioned atmosphere of Paris long ago. Sample Onion Soup, Tripe or Pig's Trotters from its authentic menu or try the excellent selection of Oysters. The desserts too are a delightful sampling of traditional favourites.

Just bad food
By Jennifer, 9/27/09
My husband and I had just finished browsing the Louvre, and we were really hungry. We walked around a bit and saw several restaurants, one of which was this one. I encouraged him to try this one because I had read about it in my Lonely Planet travel guide and figured that meant it was good. Mistake. Pork is the specialty here, so I ordered pork chops and my husband order the andouillette sausage. The food arrived, and we dug in. My husband spit out his first bite of his sausage and almost wretched. He showed me the inside and it was pig entrails. We weren't prepared for that. He said the taste matched the look. My pork chop was fatty and hard to chew. We didn't finish our food, and were really upset when the bill arrived. We ended up eating a crepe at a food stand and enjoying it much more.

We go to Paris every year, this is one of the restaurants we always go to. Outstanding food and service. Great selection of fresh seafood as well as full menu. Good wine list

Biggest rip-off in Paris
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/21/08
I used to live in Paris in the eighties, but never had enough money then to afford more than the admittedly fabulous onion soup at this place. 20 years later we finally went there with a better filled wallet and a big appetite. What a disappointment: the house specialty is indeed a "tentation" for any underfed street dog who likes bones and fat. Arrogant, incompetent service on top of disgusting meal. We paid the bill, left and went to get something to eat.....

Two Pied de Cochon visits out of Four Paris stays isn't bad!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/21/07
We really liked our two visits, but you should want to try something different like stuffed pig's feet to really savour the pride in french cooking. The oysters and seafood with champagne were divine and the service is extraordinary. It is amazingly open all the time and the decor is pink which is comfortable and the surroundings are chic. The prices were on par with what we ate and if you want to sample some quality food in a restaurant that has been around for over two hundred, be adventurous and give something you have never eaten before a chance, if not there is something on the menu for you and find out why we will be going again next month. Bon Appetit! Mme. B. Landolt

Will never go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/1/06
Bad service, bad food. Ordered a $80 bottle of wine and it was brought already opened with wine stains down the side...it looked like they had poured something into an empty bottle. Very disapointed. Of course when I told my friends who live in Paris they said the place had gone down hill lately

A touristy but classic place
By Peech, 7/29/06
As the name of the restaurant suggests, the specialty here is pig trotters. It is a dish I love and fortunately they do a very good job of it. They also have a house special entitled "La tentation de Saint Antoine", which consists of the trotter, the tail, the ear, and the snout (yes, you get a slice and can see the two nostrils). Seafood is also very popular here. To finish off, be sure to order the profiteroles drenched in chocolate sauce... This is one of my favorite places in Paris.

Fabulous Food and ambience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/24/05
We were there during the late fall and loved the appetizer bowl of cockles, steamed quickly and then chilled--served with a nice bottle of white wine--what a lingering moment! It was cozy and even though busy, it was the most pleasant dining experience we'd had!

Excelent choice!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/12/05
Oysters are great and ambience is very French and delightfull !! We were 4 persons and all off us enjoy a lot. My wife choose and excelent piece of lamb that also I taste and aprooved. Next trip to Paris is planned for 2006 and surely we will return. Now I'm recommending the Au pied de cochon to some friends who will travel to Paris next week, to visit the Premier Vision fair.
