Located in a well-known area, this old German brasserie dates back to 1886 and still holds the record for the best sauerkraut in Paris. The brasserie, which is in surprisingly good condition despite its age, has welcomed movie stars in its time. Sarah Bernhardt apparently dined on sauerkraut here, when she was doing a play at the Theâtre de la Renaissance. The decor is divine, especially the elaborate ceilings, the leather booths and the stained glass window separating the rooms.
bad service. starter (salmon tartar) was exremely cold. I haven't been asked how I would like my meat (main course), so it was overcoocked and dray. food kame very fast, all courses. I had to ask the waiter to take away my empty glas of white wine while I had my glas of red wine during the main course. I have ordered a bottle of white wine with my starter and a bottle of red wine for my main course an I wanted to spend a nice and long evening in the restaurant. but after 55 minutes everything (starter, main course and desert) was over and I had the feeling, that they would be happy, if I now leave the restaurant so they can sell the table to another party
The oysters, the people, the place! WE will go there as often as we can when we're lucky enough to be in Paris. Twice this Fall. When you are going there for the first time, you keep saying to yourself "Where is this cabbie taking me". When you get there you'll discover one of the nicest culinary escapes you'll ever experience.
We visited some really superb brasseries in Paris, so we were surprised by a very disappointing experience at Brasserie Flo. First of all, the place is beautiful - but empty. Just four tables were occupied at lunchtime, all of them by tourists. It feels strange to eat in an almost-empty room that is clearly designed for lively, noisy, convivial meals. The food was hit and miss. For example, I had a delicious cold asparagus soup from which no one had bothered to strain a handful of dangerous-looking woody bay leaf stems. Unfortunately the waitress spilled most of my husband's choucroute in his lap as she was serving it. She was clearly embarrassed and very apologetic, though the maitre d' (who was definitely aware of what had happened and appeared to quiz the waitress on the incident) did nothing to acknowledge it to us. So, I ate my lunch while my husband waited for the kitchen to prepare another choucroute, and he walked around with interesting stains on the front of his trousers for the rest of the day. We really expected an adjustment on our bill (to cover dry cleaning costs, if nothing else), but it was presented for the full amount. In the end we were just glad to get out of there. Not recommended.
noisy, overpriced for food that is less than mediocre, take my word it does not reprsent great french bistro`s nor is the price!!!. however if you want great brasserie (bistro) food try, "STELLA" ON RUE DE LA POMPE IT MAKES THE CORNER. excellent value. try the herring it`s too die for. there roast chicken has a sauce that is great put it on your mashed!!!!
