The Museum of Mediterranean Archaeology, second in France only to the Louvre, occupies part of the imposing old monastery, the Centre de la Vieille Charite , in the Panier district. The Egyptian collection, bequeathed by respected archeologist Dr. Clot-Bey, spans the Ancient Empire through to the Coptic Period. A number of artifacts and classical antiquities from Roquepertuse (3 BC) and other excavation sites are beautifully represented.
