Located in the center of town just a short walk from Place Gambetta, the Librairie Mollat has become something of an institution in Bordeaux. Children's books and cartoons, school books from primary to higher education, scientific works, books on humanities, as well as a music section incorporating a large selection of CD's and an art department featuring some beautiful tomes are all on display. The vast store presents an impressively exhaustive choice, so do not expect the personal touch of the traditional bookshop.
Moving from Paris, I was afraid to leave there all my cultural habits. Then I found Mollat, the main french independant bookstore, the largest and certainly one of the greatest. By the fact, there is also La Machine a Lire, a smaller independant bookshop based in the ancient part of the town, with great (and cute) sellers.
