Khun Juk Oriental

Description

Khun Juk Oriental in Boltens Gård is a stylish Thai restaurant, well-known for preparing traditional Thai food that is homemade from the very start. Here, spicy meets creamy and sweet, in soups as well as in steamed and grilled dishes. Added are spices like chilli, lime, basil or mint. Everything is homemade, which is why Khun Juk is also somewhat more expensive than most Thai restaurants on Vesterbro. In return for the prices, Khun Juk promises high quality and a unique culinary experience. The interior is simple but with more style than you would usually find at Thai restaurants on Vesterbro. The walls are salmon-coloured, the wooden floors dark, and the burgundy linen tablecloths add a tasteful note. The decor consists of a few green plants and an elegant stone statue.

A "Must Eat" if you like Thai...
By Teresa, 8/6/10
I read about this restaurant here and decided to give it a try--I'm so glad I did! This is one of the best Thai restaurants I've ever eaten at--in any country! It's beautiful both inside and out with lots of candles, flowers and ambiance. The owner is very nice and very hospitable. We had a wonderful evening, and I would go back in a heartbeat! Our food was truly amazing. I had the Khun Juk dinner which included the appetizer "tasting plate" with 6 appetizers--each was fantastic, but the chicken sate was the best in my opinion. The Tom Yum Soup was the best I'd ever had; it was fragrant with large chunks of shrimp, mushrooms and tomatoes--delicious! For an entree, I had the duck--the menu said the dinner included poussin (young chicken), but the owner graciously allowed me to change the soup and/or entree to something else if I preferred. Each course was better than the last. For dessert, I had traditional Thai fruit with coconut ice cream and a small coconut "pancake"--it was also delicious. We had a lovely conversation with the owner who explained that the Thai fruit wasn't so easy to get here in Copenhagen, but that he ordered it special and got it in fresh every Wednesday. At the end of dinner, he called a taxi for us, and gave us complimentary glass of champagne while we waited for the taxi. Once the taxi arrived he escorted us to the car with an umbrella since it had begun to rain. All in all it was simply a perfect evening and I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. I'll be back the next time I'm in Copenhagen.

Each time I go to Copenhagen I phone and book this restaurant to be sure I have a table. I have been returning time and time again for the past eight years and it only gets better.great ambiance, food and service I only wish we had something like this where I live in Scotland

Cosy, beautiful and flowery backyard! The waiters are very friendly and gave us excellent service. Try the menu with the 6 little starters - it suprised me! A good place to go on a first date!

East Blows Away West
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/20/07
The oriental side is good enough but there attempt to mix western food into it didnt work for me,ideas are ok but food was poorly executed.for example i paid 160 odd kroner(about 17 quid)for half lobster and it was totally destroyed, cooked to rubber and just as dry.The main course had some good oriental flavours, but was nothing to write home about.I have been a professional chef for 20 years, and my advice to them is,if they want to attempt an east meets west style food then have also a western chef in your kitchen.Ambience is relaxing if you dont mind sharing your discussion with others.Service-main course followed 2 mins after starter, then as soon as we finished was asked to leave as they needed our table again.Value?Good if food quality rises a notch.

Christmas Party
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/15/07
We were lucky enough to have our Christmas Party at Khun Juk Oriental. The food was fantastic and sculptured with such detail and care. The service was excellent and trust me; our gang of 28 from Ireland tested them! We wanted for nothing… that’s how good they are! It is such a pity you allow smoking but I guess we are spoiled here since the ban came in… it’s not that difficult to go out for a smoke and leave the restaurants air breathable! I am taking my partner there next month. You must give your self a treat and dine no 'experience' Khun Juk Oriental. If you know of a better restaurant let me know. See you there...

So glad we found it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/24/06
While the Khun Juk is a little difficult to find, it is more than worth the effort. We arrived on a cool, threating (rain) early evening without a res, but were seated on the patio (interior booked solid, but heat was provided). We opted for the set menu of the evening with wine. Michilen is missing the boat here, for value, quality of food, and service. Our 3 hour dining experience exceeded our expectations, in spite of the lack of cooperation from Mother Nature. We recommend this place without reseveration to those who will appericate great food lovingly prepared and served without pretense with good wine selections.

This is truely one of the best places to eat in Copenhagen ! The ambiance, the service and the excellent food is a thrill for all your senses and the prices are very low compaired to the quality. If you come to Copenhagen DON'T miss this great little restaurant inside the charming Baron Boltens Gaard.
