Zbraslav Castle (Zámek Zbraslav), Prague 5

Zbraslav Chateau makes for an unusual destination. The large mansion was designed by the brilliant baroque architect Giovanni Santini early in the eighteenth century. A few pieces of Czech modern sculpture can be seen dotted around the grounds. However, inside you will see nothing but Chinese, Japanese, South Asian and Islamic art. Look for the Neolithic burial vessels and ritual bronzes as well the vast array of Chinese Buddhas and the fascinating huge Japanese painted scrolls. One of these looks like the inspiration for Kurosawa's movie "Seven Samurai." There are also fine examples of Chinese and Islamic calligraphy. A variety of Oriental teas can be ordered in the snack bar.
