To get to these gardens, you ride a cable car from street level to the top. Once up there, the Petrin Observation Tower, built in 1891 and modeled on the Eiffel Tower, affords a magnificient view. There is also an observatory and two formal gardens. At street level there is a rose garden planted around a children's maze. Through a gate in the ancient wall (the "Hunger Wall") lies a lush, quiet garden with a small waterfall and pond with many varieties of flowers. This is possibly one of the most idyllic spots in the city.
i like everything about this place: going with the funicular, gardens, astronomical house, petrin tower with his spectacular panorama, mirror palace. st. lawrence church, park
nice walk to the prague castel
Don't want to walk up that steep hill? Take the funicular up and walk down! At the midway point of the funicular ride, you can disembark and take the path directly north (cutting across the hill) to the Petrinske Terasy (sp?) for wonderful food and amazing views, especially at night. Fabulous.
Warning: If you are in the park during the winter, beware of some of the steeper paths that may be covered with ice and/or snow. Makes for some adventurous (if not downright terrifying) trips down the hill.
