Description

Housed in what used to be a First Republic bordello, this spacious drinking establishment never quite lives up to the reputation of its namesake. Instead, it is a loud, friendly, sometimes raucous place where people flop around on beat-up couches and listen to the occasional live blues or jazz band. It is popular with groups of travelers and young Czechs.

My husband proposed to me here in 20055 amongst the topless pcitures on the walls the candles and bar floor boards, it was cheap cheerful and a great place to be. we are hoping to return this year, as an old married couple, looks like its had a face lift and we wil definatly be checking it out!

The best find in Prague

We found this bar by chance and just kept going back throughout our stay. There was a great atmosphere, great music, cheap drinks and friendly staff. We weren't the only people to stumble upon this bar and keep returning. This wasn't a bar out to pull in tourists, there were also a few locals there too.

Great atmosphere with very friendly staff and brilliant live music. We ended 2 tours here and they were the best nights of the holiday! Best place to meet other tourists out for a drink and we loved the people behind the bar-hope to go back asap :)

best bar in the world

this was a great bar which we found by chance after doing the abysmal ghost walk. great atmosphere, brilliant music and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. it was a fantastic end to an otherwise dissapointing evening.

Friendly Bar

I went to this bar a lot while I was in Prague, it's a great place to go if you want a relaxed environment. The workers speak english and are extremely kind and ready to help. It's a great place to meet people and hang out.

Absolutely worth it!

I went to the Marquis de Sade multiple times on my trip to Prague. The two bartenders I dealt with, an American from Pennsylvania, and a Dubliner, were extremely kind, even informative, and very quick with the drinks. It's a great, inexpensive bar.

Try the Hill's Absinth!

Not bad...

Marquis de Sade has a comfortable dive atmosphere, cheap drinks, and good music. It's great, except there happens to be about 10 like-it-but-betters in Prague. If you like a relaxed environment with good music and a more international crowd (usually), you should check out Studio Rubin.
