La Truffe Noire

Description

The Black Truffle, one of the best restaurants in Brussels, has maintained its highly coveted Michelin star for several years. The delightful interior (choose the Tuscan or Venetian salon) is rivaled only by the cuisine itself. Contrary to the restaurant's name, Chef Luigi Ciciriello actually prefers white Italian truffles. During the season (October-January) the choice of truffle dishes is unlimited. Try the pasta with cream and white truffles. Out of season, tasty meat and fish dishes are available.

not recommended, highly overpriced
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/7/10
I would not recommend this restaurant at all. Food is reasonable quality but nothing special for the extreme price. I have had MUCH better culinary experiences for less than half the bill. We paid 420 euros for two persons and had a nice salad with truffle (49 euro) but also a perfectly tasteless carpaccio (49 euro), then an overcooked ravioli in again a relatively tasteless soup (78 euro for the 2), then a wild partridge which was OK but small (one small bird was a one person serving -for 125 euro- which the chef divided in two) and with too heavy filling (bacon?), then a nice but again nothing special desert (chocolate cake with indeed a very good ball of vanilla icecream, just one for 18 euro), wine was not good quality but expensive (had a alsace riesling for 55 euros which was quite ordinary, we were offered to taste a slovenian riesling which was really good but double the price so we stuck to the alsace). When I wrote to the chef to be fair he offered a 200 euro discount on a next visit, but when I proposed instead he reduce the bill to 150 euro (which I would find still much for the quality served) and refund the excess, as I do not live in Belgium and would also not be interested in returning anyway, he wrote he was 'insulted' and even withdrew his original offer... funny swapping of positions and not an indication of serious client centeredness. Again to be fair service was good although I had a bit the feeling of being 'talked into' the dishes especially when they turned out to be dissappointing. Atmosphere is very nice, small room with few tables but for me the food is first and of paramount importance and all the other aspects should be necessarily high quality for this price.

The best truffles of Belgium! Great food + great service. Visit the restaurant in the truffle season (november - december) and ask for the specialities of the house.

The dinner was wonderful, everything perfect, the food combined with a perfect wine, the wonderful atmosphere, I only think that the service would be better.

My wife and I had one of the best experience overall - we had personalized service and attention by the owner. In addition to an excellent cuisine. I had travel all over the world and this restaurant is on my top list

Too much for too little
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/21/06
We visted this one star Michelin restaurant with high expectiations and were sorely disappointed. The room was nice and the service satisfactory but hardly outstanding. The food was either excellent or a disgrace. The simple fact is that the restaruant is too big for the kitchen. The two dishes I had should never have made it out of the kitchen. A pasta dish had sat too long and was starting to clump together. And the duck breast entree was way over done. In all fairness to the restaurant the waiter agreed the meal was poorly prepared and did offer to prepare something else, but frankly I was ready to leave by then. We spoke to the host as we left and I think he felt his pesonnable nature compensated for our poor experience. He claimed part of the problem was that too many patrons wanted to dine around 8 pm and that just created havoc in the kitchen. We've dined at some of the finest restaruants by reputation in Eurpoe and the US. This was one of the poorest. The meal was average, the cost outrageous.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/14/05
All is fine, as well the service, the room between the tables, the friendship of the owner, the car service, the nice decor, an a part smoking room, and.... the best and engenious food. Own first restaurant when we are coming back in Belgium...

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/17/05
My overall experiences at this incredible restaurant has been beyong good! From the ambience to Luigi's personal touch, everything and one are top rated. I have never been dissappointed with the cusine nor with the service. The staff are friendly and Luigi makes all of his guests feel like they are the most important customer in the restaurant. EXCELLENT!
