Zu den drei Husaren, Vienna

I used to eat there regularly when lived in Vienna. Excellent food, great service and the perfect atmosphere for an intimate evening. It's not cheap but then the finer things in life never are. I can only guess that those who have not enjoyed the experience don't really appreciate fine dining and would moan about any place they ate, you won't find fish and chips in a fine dining restaurant people.

The food was mediocre, the service poor and the prices extortionate. Not to be recommended. I shall never go there again.

We went there in October 2009 because this was editor's pick in one of the books about best restaurants in the world. But I will never go there again because the food was overpriced, tips were already included in the prices, service was relatively poor, interrior needed renovation. The only person who made life better was pianist. I do not understand how anyone could ever like this place.

I have traveled the world and this is the most horrific experience I have had. I had booked a party of 10 and at the last minute I had to cancel 4 people. I was told it would be 400 EU. So I tried to find some people to fill the spot and called when I did. Our table was not available and the owner was miserable. We had a preset meal and I asked for the menu so we could order some additonal things and it never arrived. The soup was cold. The sea bass was dried out. The cookies at the end had shriveled strawberries. They never served bread and the attention was not there. At the end they accused me of stealing the waiters pen and threatened to charge my credit card. These are nasty people and not worth the money. The food is mediocre at best and with the large number of exquisite restaurants in Vienna I would chose another. Try Korzo...it is elegant and the food is spectacular...used to be a Micheline Star. This is an absolute must if you are in Vienna. If you have any appreciation for fine dining this is the place. Appetizers are a specialty but be careful because they are priced separately when you select them from the "trolley" carts. [There are usually two or three carts wheeled to your table.] Awesome!

Food and ambiance was excellent. Piano was good and added to the mood. Flew transatlantic for this dinner as I had been here some time ago. Overall this is a very nice experience and although expensive not any more so than other restaurants of it caliber in Vienna.

My husband and I have been traveled to Vienna several times over the last 9 years. "Zu den drei Husaren" hit our radar screen on one such visit, and needless to say, it is here to stay. You are warmly greeted, quickly seated and then allowed to leisurely dine choosing among various scrumptious examples of haut cuisine. They are well known for their seafood appetizer trolley, and it is no wonder. It is romantic and quiet -- a nice respite from the bustling big city... The ambience is simply lovely. The colors warm and friendly, the staff attentive without hovering, and the food marvelous. If you are looking for Wiener Schnitzel or a pair of Wiener with some Sauerkraut, this is not your place. If you want a truly memorable meal while in Vienna, I recommend this restuarant witout hesitation. We were most recently there of on New Year's Eve 2007/2008. Following was the menu, on this particular night, it was a set menu offering price at 188 Euro per person: Goose liver praline in apple jelly with portwine nuts; chestnut cream soup with a potato croissant; roast scallops on truffled Jerusalem artichoke sauce with a roquette-lemon butter; orange-mint sorbet in Champagne sauce; roast saddle of deer with morels, red cabbage and a ginger spiced semolina dumpling; and dessert was a spiced parfait with a hot wine sabayon sauce followed by a tray for each table of delightful baked goods and chocolates. ENOUGH SAID!

My spouse and I went on a city trip to Vienna late November 2007 to celebrate our 25 years weddings. While my spouse did not visit Vienna before, I was lucky to have already been twice on a business trip in Vienna. During one of these business trips (somewhat in the late 1980's, I believe!) we took dinner in Zu den Drei Huzaren. What we have eaten exactly, I could not remember anymore, that my three business colleagues and I, all youngsters, shared the restaurant bill to make it more acceptable to our respective bosses, all working for the same telecom company, I can still lively...After so many years, more importantly, that the food was excellent in Zu den Drei Huzaren, I yet knew as if I have eaten there just a couple of months ago. By reading the reviews on your website, I start doubting because only a few reviews were positive. And as you know, a 25 yrs weddings event only happens once in a lifetime,...also for Belgian couples...Failure is then not an option... (I want to congratulate you to leave also the less rosy reviews on your website. This is a top class attitude, probably typically for a first class restaurant as yours!). Friday night, November 30, 2007 was our evening in your restaurant: service excellent, the owner welcomed us, the hors d'oeuvres trolleys marvelleous, the pianist very courteous (he asked us whether we wanted to hear a particular song), the à la carte meals superb (sole meunière and hirshrundfilet), the Austrian wines excellent, the sacher torte and cheese trolley abondant. And I sincerely regret now that my little belly was unable to eat all sweets that you served with our cup of coffee that Friday...Oh yes, for good order's sake, also the Rechnung was truly acceptable for such a wonderful dinner. And this time, there were not colleagues around to split the bill...(un)fortunately!? We cannot but recommend your restaurant to anyone who wants to spend an unforgettable dining experience in Wien. Why should your restaurant be situated at 1100 kilometres from the city of Antwerp, where we live?... Both of us wish you further good luck and dozens of satisfied clients as we are!

Exceptional service, especially for European standards. Pet friendly restaurant. The ambience was nice an quiet, the piano player was charming, but the food was something I could barely even remember.

Alone in Vienna on Thanksgiving, I went here for a luxurious comfort. Dressed for the occasion in a simple black dress, I was graciously shown to a table and attentively waited on by no less than three waiters. Dinner was delicious, and I was treated to a special dessert. Vienese courtliness, manners, and fine food were in abundance. Washington DC
