It's not easy to find this charming restaurant, which is located at the very back of the Messepalast, but it's worth the effort. In winter, you eat in a dark, panelled room; in summer there is a tranquil, shady garden. The food is not marvelous but simple foods such as homemade sausages are fine, and there is a good vegetarian selection as well. Austrian wines are served by the glass. The Glacis Beisl is the perfect place to relax between bouts of sightseeing.
The food here was neither good nor bad, just standard and rather bland. The service is competent, but not particularly warm or helpful. The decor is rather plain, although it can be pretty at night with the snow falling. It's casual and moderately priced and a reasonable option if you're in the Museum Quarter. Warning: the restaurant can be VERY hard to find! You need to enter via Breitengasse off Mariahilferstrasse. Don't let a cab drop you off in the middle of the Museum Quarter and you'll spend more time than you planned wandering around trying to locate the place.
