Stiftskeller St. Peter
This restaurant professes to be the oldest restaurant in Central Europe. Established in 803, it may well be justified in its claims. The restaurant is situated in St Peter's Monastery and serves a mix of typical Austrian dishes and creative specialities like monastery stew and St. Peter's fish. A unique atmosphere and historic surroundings make for a memorable experience, yet the most remarkable of the five rooms has to be the "Richardstube," set in a vaulted cellar.
whats not to love about the oldest restaurant in Austria, even all of Europe. they take pride in their traditions, the service is outstanding and the food is to die for. especially if you catch one of the Mozart dinner shows, it is just pure cultural immersion. a must do for every trip to Salzburg !!!!
When we entered this old building, we were quite amazed at the impecable cleanliness of the entrance rooms, restroom facilities then the dining areas. And even though they were busy decorating for Christmas, it was absolutely beautiful. The food was great, service could not have been better. We loved the whole experience. And to top it off, we were entertained with lovely piano and vocals of The Sound of Music!
We attended the Mozart concert at Stiftskeller, and it was wonderful. The service was impeccable, the food was amazing, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The concert was extremely enjoyable. (You can't go to Salzburg and not listen to some Mozart.) Overall it was an incredible experience, and I will definitely go back when I return to Salzburg.
Studying in Salzburg my dining expirinces are usually at Indigo, the local fastfood chain. However, for my 21st Birthday my father gifted me with money to dine with a friend at Stiftskeller St. Peter, the oldest restaurant in Europe.
It was absolutely amazing. I have never expirenced better service, and the food was delectable. We decided to sit outdoors and the atmosphere was perfect. The wait staff was top of the line, and the matre d' made me feel like a princess the whole night longperfect for my 21st birthday.
The only drawback that I can think of (and this may or may not be a problem) is the expense. For my friend and I the bill came to be somewhere in the range of 100 UDS. Quite expensive when you are living as a study abroad student and no income. However, if it's within your price range then, by all means, stop by Stiftskeller St. Peter and recieve the royal treatment.
I came here with my high school choir my Junior year, and we were able to get a really great discount. The ambiance in this restaurant is absolutely incredible and beautiful. We were able to eat here for a much lower price than average, but I would still recommend it.
A friend and I went to Germany/Austria to shop the Christmas Markets. On December 18, we took a train to Salzburg, specifically to eat at the restaurant (we had made reservations before we left the US). I highly recommend it. Not only was the atmosphere fantastic, but the food as well. We felt like royalty the entire time. I will never go to Germany/Austria again without making a special trip to the restaurant.
A food lover in Houston, Texas.
very attractive keller - but we went in prebooked at 8.30 pm - my wife and I - the staff were clearly tired and it was nearly 1 hour before we received any food. We were seated in the room at the far end which seemed to be for the 2 tables - no atmosphere - everyone talking in whispers - one waitress serving about 10 tables - in the end we had 2 courses and left - not a bad place but many better - douglas rae
We had been to Salzburg three times previousley, but only for day trips this time we had arrived for a three day stop over with our friends Elisebeth & Clive and realy wanted them to enjoy as much as we have on our previouse visits. we were not let down, The moment that we entered your beautiful resturaunt everything was 10/10 the music playing, the meal setting, the frendly service, and most important the food 10/10 can't say better. Hope to be back next year
This place is a typical Austrian pub. The idea is simple, but perfect. Wooden tables and chairs placed in two
rooms, of which one is predestined for eating, the other for the serious drinking. In summer guests can even ...
