Mirador Ram Luna, ASERRí

On our first visit to Costa Rica we wished to go some place very special on my wife's birthday. Ram Luna has a nice buffet every Wednesday. This was our choice. We arrived just at sunset and enjoyed a spectacular view of San Jose. Bring your camera and pray for a clear night. The ride up, and down the mountain, is something else since Costa Rica has not discovered guard rails yet. The buffet (try all of the native dishes),and folk dancing, made our evening complete. Not terribly dressy but no shorts. Reservations recommended. Be sure to set a defenite price for the cab ride up, and down. You can negotiate for the cab to wait for you. We went up @ 6 pm and had our cab waiting for us at 10 pm for 14 colones (about $28.00 US). I do not believe there is a real set price for a taxi so who knows what you will be able to do. If you have a friend in San Jose, take him/her out for the evening if a car is involved. A meal presently costs $28.00 US (14 colones),about the same as our cab fare. Above all, ENJOY, ENJOY !!!

Based on recommendations here, we decided to go to Ram Luna on our first night in Costa Rica, and it was a spectacular beginning to our trip! The view of San Jose at night is breathtaking; the food was a delicious introduction to Costa Rican dishes (be sure to try the beet and potato salad); and the folkloric dances were skillfully and enthusiasticly performed. Traditional musical instruments accompanied the dancers, and the MC alternated Spanish and English in his introductions. A nice touch was that an open bar was included in our all-inclusive price, so for $28 a person, we enjoyed food, floor show, and drinks. A real bargain in my opinion. (There were also fireworks later, but we were too tired to stay for that.) My only warning is to be aware that the drive from San Jose can be quite long, depending on where you're staying in the city. And it is up a narrow winding road past locked and barb-wired houses. Be sure to arrange with your taxi driver to wait for you at the restaurant; that does not seem to be a problem, but be sure you discuss this before you set out for the restaurant. Later,our Costa Rican guide seemed impressed that we had found such a typical Costa Rican restaurant on our own. She gave it a high endorsement also.

This restaurant is located in Aserri town. Every Wednesday offers a nice show.... All kind of Costa Rican food, tipical music, fireworks and more! Reservations in advence is required!

It's antique, warm and ellegant. People is really kind and the food is delicious. Ideal for sharing with someone especial. The view is also espectacular. Don't forget to visit the shop.

Best view of the city. Very good food. On the pricey side, but this restaurant is just as much about the view, the experience, and the entertainment (if you plan right and go when they offer folkloric dancing and marimbas). Well worth the trip up the mountain. Go at dusk, hang out on the balcony until sunset, then go inside and enjoy the evening. It is a good half hour windy road drive up the mountain. Vale la pena visitar este restaurante bonito y romantico.

A little overpriced but its worth it, great view,perfect for a romantic dinner...

Ram Luna is located on the side of a mountain about 30 minutes from downtown San Jose and is absolutely beautiful. I met mostly high society Costa Ricans there and not many tourists. Wednesday night is a buffet, all you can eat and drink, and rather pricey for Costa Rica. There is live music, country folk dancers and artisans. Very nicely done. On other nights, the menu has excellent choices, a decent wine menue and is extremely resonable. The view of the valley is the most romantic i've seen. Most cab drivers from san jose will try and charge a lot, but a fair price to take you, wait and drive you back is no more than $20

Great Atmosphere...30 min. expensive cab ride to and from, usually the cab driver will wait for you to finish eating.

I went on a Wednesday night to their buffet & show night. The food was good especially for a buffet. The dancing & costumes were entertaining, and the view was beautiful.
