Mirador Ram Luna

Description

This is one of the finest restaurants in town, located on the slopes of the Escazú hills, providing one of the best views of the whole Central Valley. It is amazing by night when visitors from around the world and Costa Rican locals get together, or romantic couples gather here for dinner or drinks. The owners serve delicious gourmet food, international and Costa Rican dishes, and a variety of wines. They also offer a floor show on Wednesdays.

Top notch
By ,
I agree that the food is quite good but not " amazing" for the price. As far as the view, ambiance, and employees it'd be worth the price just to be able to hang out and have drinks. I've been there about 10 times over the years. The International orchid show is held in mid March every year so I combine that and Ram Luna as an insanely wonderful weekend jaunt. Then I get out of SJ, and back to the real Costa Rica, as quickly as possible. See you there in March !

Over the top view
By ,
This restaurant is high in the mountains above the valley with a panoramic view of San Jose, especially startling at night. The taxi ride up is fairly pricey by Costa Rican standards but most drivers will wait until after you are finished with dinner to take you back to town at no extra charge. The restaurant is nice inside and the wait staff is an older generation but very professional. The menu is rather sparce and the food is nothing special. Overall it is rather touristy. Very romantic setting however.

Spectacular Views and Fun Atmosphere
By ,
Since we were traveling with a group of 20 people we decided to meet up in San Jose and stay the night before moving on to our next destination. Ram Luna seemed like the perfect place to celebrate our arrival to Costa Rica and we were right! The restaurant is very cool and set up to accommodate large groups of people. The food on the buffet was not the best we had in Costa Rica but it was good. The local wine was not to my liking but they also offered beer. The MC did his best to make our group (and others) feel welcome as he shouted out the places we were all from. There was a little bit of confusion as to whom we were to pay since we came with a package from our hotel that included the shuttles to restaurant. In the midst of the confusion it was hard not to feel like they thought we were trying to rip them off. The dancing and fireworks were a nice touch. The restaurant has spectaculars views of San Jose at night! Make sure you bring a sweater no matter how hot you were that day - we were FREEZING outside! The drive from our hotel was sketchy at best (crazy traffic/long winding roads/accidents).... but an adventure for sure!

Love the service, love the food, love the atmosphere...

This place is amazing, I will most definitely be back! The service is awesome... try and have Ronnie be your server... he's the best! I don't speak Spanish and he interpreted the menu for me and helped me make a great selection on appetizers, entree and dessert! Love this place!

What a View
By ,
I had read all the reviews on Ram luna and asked my girlfirend (tica) to make a reservation as I would back in town on Business for the weekend. THe drive up was a little too long for me and it was torrential rain But the moment we walked into the restaurant I knew we had found a gem The overall dinning is beautiful and we were lead to table by an open overlooking the whole of San Jose (well it was when miraculously the clouds cleared) What a view Quite hoenstly the food was mediocre superbly served but sheer ambience of the restaurant made up for everything I am lucky to have been all over the world many times and I would put Ram Luna into the "must see" category for any trip to San Jose

Great Food, View and Service
By ,
My girlfriend (a Tica) suggested this place for our last dinner before I had to go to the USA for 3 weeks. I was shocked, to say the least. I drove up this seemingly never-ending road up the side of this mountain, then entered through an understated gate that took us to a well guarded parking lot. There is a grand stairway leading from the parking lot up to the entrance. You'll pass a small store and a beautiful waterfall on your walk up. It was a slow night (Tuesday) and we had more people waiting on us than we needed. There isn't a bad view in the whole restaurant. It is the best view of the Central Valley that I have ever seen. The food was the best that I had in a long time. Outstanding soups, salads, entrees, sides and bread. We skipped dessert, but I'm sure it was equally delicious. Everyone was extremely attentive, and our bill was $25,000 colones for two. I should add that we don't drink alcohol, but did have coffee after dinner. With the quality of food, the presentation, the service, the atmosphere and the view, I rate this as a must-see for anyone living in or visiting Costa Rica. Puraa Vida!

Unforgetable night

I enjoyed this place a lot. The best view of San Jose Valley. We enjoyed the artists, the food and the service. If you go to San Jos you have to visit Ram Luna. If are in your honey moon or you are trying to get the love of someone special bring her/his to this magical place.

Favorite Restaurant on Earth!
By ,
After a long twisty ride up the mountain, with hints at how great the view might be, we arrived at a compound that was immaculate. We took pictures by the beautiful waterfall just outside the entry. Inside was gorgeous and the host and wait staff were of course tuanis (too nice). They even lit the fireplace when they noticed my girl was cold. The food and wine selection was relatively outstanding, but the view wasn't all that. By the time we got to the top of the mountain (ear popping and all), a fog had developed. We asked the host: When is a good time to come and see the view? He looked at his watch and replied "about twenty minutes". About twenty minutes later we watched in awe as the fog slowly lifted, revealing the most spectacular city view I've ever seen. Seemingly every light in San Jose can be seen from there, at the perfect focal point to be framed in darkness. I'll never forget it. We returned a second time a few days later, and of course, the friendly Tico's remembered us. Astoundingly, when we returned the following year; they still remembered us! That was a couple of years ago, but I'll be returning soon! If you go to Costa Rica, don't miss Ram Luna! Pura Vida!
