El Cuartel de la Boca del Monte, San Jose

I came here because of the reviews below, and it was a Monday at about 7:30 PM when I got there. The place was empty. Once I got inside, I walked through the big door on the left because I saw somebody in there, and was instantly ushered out and the door was shut behind me. I went to the bar/dj area past all the empty tables, and sat at the bar. The music was obnoxiously loud, and it was a mix of Coldplay, '50s slow-dance and tired '80s pop. Depressing. The server was polite enough, and spoke English. I ordered the pork chops with wine. I received a very dry, partially burnt chicken breast, but I decided not to complain because I would need them to call a taxi for me later. I ate a few bites and then the mashed potatoes. At least those were good. I was thirsty and wanted another soda, but I felt very unwelcome there, and the music was killing me, so I decided to leave as fast as I could.

Not modern not trendy but music, people (local and foreigners) and drinks creates an excellent atmosphere. The place has three sections of choice: live music (grupo Marfil), Restaurant and DJ music. And drinks are not expensive. 100% recommended - be sure to be there on a Monday
