Initially, it was intended as a resting-place for famous war veterans from the colonial era. In this cemetery you can find important names from the 19th and early 20th century. The grounds are just outside El Morro and overlook the sea.
Absolutely loved this cementerio! Definately worth your time and money. Photo opportunities are marvelous here and the pictures quite heavenly. The architecture a true must see. Enjoy, pack extra film and your extraordinary sense of spirituality!
This place is something right out of a movie you thought was filmed in Haiti or S. America! Its beautiful, but at the same time, morbid. It is right next to El Morro AND the ocean, so its a must see and a must photograph! There are people from everywhere burried here. If you have ever seen the movies "Assassins" and "Under Suspicion" you will have seen this cemetery. You can walk freely inside its borders. ANd if your lucky you will see the coal black cat that is seen within its walls from time to time!
