The hippo still dances

The Hipopotamus or Hipopotamo is a very old establishment of Rio Piedras. Its restaurant/ cafe with a selection of local foods. Do not expect the Ritz, is just a normal place to eat food, that's it. Reminds me of little cafe's in small towns across the USA.
What I like about it its the simple feeling of history and the fact it doesn't pretend to be anything than what it is. There is nothing fancy about the place, you can go in and get a nice sandwish of many types, or some typical rice and beans with your selection of meats, poultry, or fish. The history of the hipo is one of independentism. You will probably find more than one of the independentist party members eating at the establishment and its an interesting experience to have a conversation with them, get their point of view. Now politicians attract other politicians so you will find commonwealth supporters as well as statehood supporters eating side by side.
Frankly I felt as if it was a nice neutral ground to hear different opinions on matters dear to puertoricans.
