Casita Blanca (La)

Description

This is Puerto Rican cuisine at its best. Attended personally by its owner Jesús Perez, this fonda has an excellent Mofongo, a plantain treat. The house drink called 'The Chichaíto' is worth the trip, as it contains several secret delectable 'heady' ingredients. This establishment is so popular that gubernatorial candidates on the island traditionally visit it prior to the campaign! You can expect a long wait here; a testament to its popularity. Credit cards are not accepted. Authentically, Puerto Rican in its decor, the restaurant is housed in a traditional home in a working-class area.

Dissapointed
By ,
I have there several times and although the food is good I was disappointed on our last visit - they reheated the bacalaitos (saw them do it) and the beans tasted as if they had also been reheated. The service and ambiance is excellent. Might give it one more try.

This is THE place to eat if you're just in San Juan for the day...
By ,
We were pointed in the direction of Casita Blanca by a local when asked the best place to eat. The Mofongol is to die for and the Mojitos are fantastic. Enjoy the parrots while dining alfresco!

Escape from the ordinary!
By ,
Loved the atmosphere! If you are looking for a chain resturant, this isn't the right place for you. It's a little on the earthy side, but the food is excellent, atmosphere is great and this place is both fun and campy. Go hungry because they give you so much food and it's really a great bargin.

Best service and food in PR
By ,
This is the best place to eat in PR. Since it is in a residential area, you feel like you are eating at home. It is outside so you hear the coqui frogs and it really feels like PR. The food was excellent and the service was the best. My friend eating with us is from San German and he said that this was the real deal. The people that work there are genuinely nice. If you don't want a watered down version of San Juan, this is the place to go.

Great Authentic Food
By ,
The restaurant is very cool. It like visiting your grandparents, los abuelitos. The decoration is pretty old, the pueto rican music was from the 50's, there was no air conditioning and a tree is growing in the middle of the backroom. None of this will bother you. The food and service will more than make up for it. The best day to go is on Sunday, buffette day, you can try just about everything their menu. You won't be disappointed.

authenic ma and pa resturant
By ,
I loved this place! i am going back to san juan just to go here! the resturant is in a family owned house. my boyfriend is from the dominican republic and has not had authenic food like this since going home. i heard about it on the food network and had to try it. the waiters were all very nice and helped me choose the right dish. the dishes are hearty and average about $8-9. this is a complete meal with bread and soup before the actually dinner. i loved it and can not wait to go back. my mouth is watering just thinking of it

The best Puertorican food
By ,
Puertorican food at its best... It reminds you how Puerto Rican’s used to live back then... It recreates the humbleness and the different stages Puerto Ricans went thru. It has little details of real 1930-1970's artifacts. Don’t go expecting it to be fancy restaurant... go like if you were visiting a very close friend... Relax, read a book, watch TV and enjoy the house music... and the least but most important your appetite... You’re going to need it!

great food,great ambience
By ,
What a delight to go into this establishment and see things (dishes, pots, etc.) that my Mami and Abuela used! The ambience sets the mood and the food definately brings you back in time. We were a party of 10 and everyone enjoyed their lunch. Whenever I visit La Isla Del Encanto again, this will be my first stop!
