Description

El Patio de Sam is a Puerto Rican institution on Calle de San Sebastián. It is frequented by all types of personalities, American expatriates and local celebrities. Best known for its burgers, patrons are also impressed by its Creole cuisine. While the prices may appear steep, the burger plates(loaded with extras) are quite filling. The establishment features live entertainment M-Sa. Even though the dining room is indoors, one gets the sense that they are dining al fresco, under a skylight. Creole specialties include Asopao (heavy rice soup), rabbit, and seafood crepes.

Very memorable

I was stationed at Fort Brooke from 1962-65. Patio Sam's was our favorite off post place to eat. Good service, good food and a very friendly atmosphere. I'm looking forward to the day I return, and enjoy one of their great burgers.

memorable

I was there in the early 70s and I will never forget it. We had Paella and it was exquisite. We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon. Highly recommend it to every one no matter how fussy they are with food.

I always go to Patio the Sam

I visit Old San Juan every year to visit friends and family. El Patio de Sam is a must for a nice lunch or early dinner after spending time visiting Old San Juan. My preference: Chicharrones de pollo con tostones (crunchy fried chicken with green fried plaintains), and a local beer of course. The food is excellent, the service too but what I liked the most is the ambiance on this indoor "garden like" dinning area. Location is fabulous, just a few steps from El Morro fortress and close to indoor government parking lot.
