iI was passing phuket since 1999 and it is such nice place, until 2004 I was in the middle of tsunami with my kid,I think Thi peple are very helpful and they help me and my kid from dengerous stations even the BAN TAI hotel they are great.I am willing to return back again,I have good memory with many frinds there.Patong need little arrangemt (dogs-cleaning the street - cleaning the hotels swimming pools..etc)
In the Islands should be there famous
resturants.I think it is place for relaxtion.
The whole place is putrid, I cannot think of one nice thing to say about it, except I am not there now.
Dont go, dont waste your money and if you have to go do not stay at The Thavorn Beach Resort and Spa it is the filthest place, rude staff, nothing works, pool is dirty, food is fly blown and all the staff ogle women. The airconditioning broke down every day,, the rooms were dirty, the fridge broke down the tv broke down... the room had not been cleaned from the previous guests stay no hot water for two days..and on and on
I loved pretty much everything about Patong Beach, the locals are all pretty friendly, shopping is great, nightlife is good! the resort we stayed in was nice with good service. I am going back this year! I dont think there is really anything bad I can say about this place.
Travelled to Patong Beach,Phuket in the spring of 2006 and 2005 and what a beautiful place, the people are great and the nightlife awesome, have traveled the whole island by motorbike and found everyday to be a new adventure, the island has everything to offer and need not go any where else, i found a great place to stay the last time there as it is not hard on the pocket book and kept very clean and great people who own it, Andaman Sea GuestHouse in Patong, hopefully they have a room for me as i am going again Apr 2007 and can't wait
What an amazing place. Patong was great , the beach was ok, the night life was out of this world. The food cheap, can get exoensive if you want. Seafood was about 30 u.s. it had shrimp, prawns, crabs, mussells and 1 lobster tail. fed 2 people. TO me that cheap. The surround islands are amazing. Phi Phi was very relaxing , Krabi amazing. Went 3 months after tsunami and it was beautiful. The people are among the friedliest i have ever met. You have from staying at a $15 t skys the limit hotels. Everything from under the sun. I miss the noisy motorbikes the smell of the traffic and everytihg else about the place. Made many friends there. Stayed for 4 months. WOW WOW WOW
There was absolutely nothing i didn"t a d o r e in Phuket and Patong in particular;i fell in love with the place the very moment i set my foot there!I love Thailand and Phuket in particular. My favourite places in pPhuket :James Bond Island, the caves in PhangNga Bay,Ko Khai Nak.
My wife and I have been three times (2000 , 2002 and 2004) and we absolutely love the place. We're going again in February 2007 with our 2 and 4 year old boys. They will have a ball and we are very comfortable in taking them there.
Want great food? If you walk east along Bangla Road (away from beach) and turn left at the lights there are 2 little open air restaurants next to each other about 50 metres along. One is called "No.6", the other, "Dang".
Best thai food ever. You can order 5 or 6 dishes, plenty of steamed rice and a couple of Singha "long-necks" for about AUD $12-$15.
Sit at one of the bench seats for dinner and watch all the action happen in the street.
We thing it's a beautiful place!!! Go there.
Do not go to Patong Beach if you like to swim in the ocean. The beach is really crowded with hawkers and there are so many jet skis that it is not safe to swim in the water. Patong Beach would be beautiful without all the jet skis and kite sailors, but it sort of like a Las Vegas of Thailand. It is a shame that such a lovely natural location has been ruined by a motorized and neon idea of fun.
This was my wifes first time overseas and about my fifth.
She was blown away by the sights and the people.
Little place on the beach to eat suma something it was called the people staff and even tourist were great.
We met couples had nights out and also relaxed it was the best trip i had ever had.
Playin games with kids in the street, meeting perfect strangers only to become friends worlds apart.
Fightong for a bargain and laughing the whole time we talked.
Buying the staff beers and talking about their lives and families.
Walking the back streets and looking through windows at a peep of how they live and thinking how lucky we are to be living where we do.
What a awesome place and people.
MAD IF YOU DON"T GO
This place have changed a lot for worst since we were there in 1998. Lots of traffic, pollution, prostitutes, expensive seafood ($40 per person)overbuild. Dirty dogs runing all over the town. Shops are expensive too. I get a beeter quality and for less $$ clothes or any other goods in california places like NewPort Beach or Daina Point...I guess its only gonna get worst. Better place Hawaii or California.
