Ka Jok See
Every now and again one finds a "hidden gem," where all the ingredients for a memorable evening are in place. That is why Ka Jok See, arguably Phuket Town's most popular restaurant, has been drawing the locals, and a few lucky tourists, for the past 14 years. The building is an 18th century Sino-Portuguese treasure with simple decor, but a charming sense of style. Dishes such as the succulent prawns and Jurassic Salad are prepared in a traditional Bangkok style and cooked with a flair that raises even the simple dishes to new heights. Main dishes cost THB150-THB380.
When we were told by our hosts that we were going to a Thai restaurant in Phuket, I thought "oh, how original! (sarcasm)" The host was apparently a regular for he ordered nothing but a string of appetizers washed down with endless glasses of Kanonkop (S. Africa). I must say its the probably the BEST Thai cuisine I had ever laid tongue on! The entertainment was superb with a whole repertoire of waiter-turned-dancers, and a "Liza Minelli" who Milli-Vanilli-ed 'his' performance wonderfully. Before long everyone, intoxicated with drink or simply the atmosphere was frolicking on the dance floor. Marvelous, Must Go location if you ask me, a 15 year Phuket regular.
The ambience is not for dinner but for a celebration. The drinks and the dancers come out late in the evening and they get you all dancing and singing. It is no longer a restaurant.
You have to decide which is more important, just for food I would not visit, but to party go for it
Ka Jok See is unique. While Thai purists may sneer at the food, it has a wonderful athmosphere and if you and your friends want to enjoy the evening and dont mind paying more then this is the place. Incidentally, for most 'farangs' the food is quite good
I have to tell you, it was my third time visiting Phuket’s Laguna area. I was taken to dinner at Ka Jo See! It was a wonderful evening full of surprises. The food was great, the people were fun people and we had a excellent time. I think everybody has to try Ka Jok See in Phukettown. If you like good food, fun and a dance, go to Ka Jok See!
I lived in Phuket for four years and Ka Jok See was one of my favorite places. I remember going there as a teenager with my dance teachers daughter and dancing the night away after a fabulous/lavish meal. The food is delicious, the service is excellent and the atmosphere is beyond wonderful. There are places that are lower in price on Phuket, but this is by far one of the best and most enchanting restruants you will ever go to. If there were more than five stars I would give it more. I have enjoyed going to this restraunt since I was 13 until now, at 22.
