This is home to the elite among Thailand's Italian-born and trained chefs, offering the very best in elegant dining. This extraordinary beautiful restaurant is set on the rocky shore with the accompanying views. The menu is varied and their aim is to produce authentic regional cuisine such as Classic Strip Loin Steak (THB650), Spaghetti with Seafood (THB290) and Tiger Prawns (THB850). Take home a momento with Maurizio's Family Recipes-the recently published cookbook containing all the Maurizio family secret recipes. Enjoy the stunning sunsets of Kalim Bay over a few drinks, or sample Maurizio's special "sunset" menu.
The best thing about this restaurant and its sister places Otowa and ban Rim Pa is the location. Right on the seafront, if the place had been located further back away from its prime location it would never have become as popular as it has.
Its popularity is a testament to good PR and advertising, the reality is something else.
The place is scruffy but you can only really se this in daylight.
Food is at best average, granted the Pizza is good but at 450 Baht it is the most expensive you'll find in Thailand. Being open air may be romantic but it also means there are Mozzies!!! lots of them, so they have put mosquito coils (a kind of burning incense) under each table, this makes for some unpleasant smells!!
Fortunately all three restaurants were washed away by December's Tsunami.
I never come again, when the staff said to the gests at noon for lunch , comme back in half an hour, we are not ready. Its incredibile in Thailand, I never see that before, the manager must explain to is staff propose to the gests take a drink for wait
We just came back from 3 weeks in Phuket and ate at Da Maurizio's three times...It was wonderful. Great staff, sensational sunset and really lovely contemporary Italian food. Joes Downstairs which is next door is totally different and also worth trying. Cocktails at sunset and Tapas. We will be back next year.
If you are backpackers or on a tight budget then go somewhere else. These are restaurants for those who are cheap.
First of all, I need to say something to one of the other reviewers who wrote "Fortunately all three restaurants were washed away by the tsunami." Anyone who would say such a horrible thing obviously has no clue what they are talking about. Heartless people in this world...
In fact of the three restaurants, only Da Maurizio was physically ravaged by the tsunami. It was entirely rebuilt and renovated over a year ago. They brought in a new chef and the food, which was pretty good before is now incredible. They have healthy options, great salads, live fish, and of course pasta. The service is top notch and the location is just stunning.
The prices will set you back a bit and are high for Thailand but it is worth it. All three restuarants (Da Maurizio, Baan Rim Pa and the new Joe's Downstairs) obviously have their act together. Save your special Phuket nights for these places. Also great for the sunset.
