Baan Rim Pa
Dramatically perched on a cliff top, this restaurant has been setting the standards for service and style in Phuket for ten years. One of the island's foremost and favorite eating spots, the traditional Thai teak house hosts the wondrous open-terrace restaurant, built with spectacular views over Patong Bay. In the evening, the local pianist charms diners with his own interpretations of Mozart. Main meals start at THB195 and include the delicious Yaam Khong Talay Pasom (herb salad of mixed seafood) and Panaeng Ped (creamy curry with duckling).
I went there with my husband on december 2006, It was the last day on our honeymoon, it was very romantic and it had an amazing Thai style, it was a perfect place to have a romantic dinner.
The service was very excellent and very friendly.
You can either go with your friends or the love of your life. The combination of excellent views, good gourmet and this "I don't know what" makes the place formidable. It's the right place to "ask" the love of your life...
We went here on Sept, 2006 with very high expectations and we were very disappointed. The only good thing about this place is its location and the food. Other than that, every thing was a disaster.
We ordered just one meal set (because my friend and I plan to share, and then order a la carte later on). The waitress frowned and said "Just one?!".
The total bill included a 10% service charge so we didn't bother tipping. Another waitress, seeing the check, called another waitress who was cleaning a table beside ours, and said something in Thai while showing the bill!
I really can't believe this place!
Don't waste your money here!
The food was extremely good and the choice was varied. It was not cheap but we felt we got value for money in that the surroundings were great the sun-set was to die for and we were not bothered by biting insects. The choice of menu was varied and so good we returned for a second visit in spite of the fact that it was a ten minute taxi ride away. We are returning to Phuket in April and we will certainly be visiting this restaurant.
We had been to this Restaurant some 8 years prior and had a truly wonderful experience and so were really looking forward to going back! What a huge disappointment! Right from the start we felt that we were being rushed to order and felt uncomfortable as there were quite a few people waiting to be seated. We ordered from the Special Thai Style Menu and except for the Spring rolls every thing else became quickly cold and very uninviting to taste. Unfortunately they brought out everything together which did not happen before on our last visit! My Mango juice was warm and was largely disguised with two huge ice cubes which made no difference. Other drink orders were forgotten! Service was so poor that we had to continually call for the waiter and in the end we complained about what we had experienced. The other couple with us had to send their fish back as it was also cold. Finally the manager did come and tried to smooth things over with some fairly poor excuses, offering us a discount and some cognac as sweeteners. It didnt work!!! Our whole experience was extremely disappointing. Quite frankly I think this place is now highly overrated and far better meals and service can now be got elswhere. I have sent so many people to the Baan Rim Pa and now will definitely recommend they look elsewhere!! Oh by the way the discount was a huge 15% Ha ha I was expecting at least 50%!! Don't be disappointed. Go elswhere! If you want a meal with fabulous surroundings then go here by all means but don't expect too much else!! Highly overrated and inflated prices compared to elsewhere!! This place has obviously seen better days and now can't cope with the extra competition!! Don't be conned by the so called ambience, for a Restaurant the quality of food and service comes first!! Here it is sadly gone missing!!
A bit touristy? Well, you're in Phuket and everyone's a tourist. This place is GREAT. The food is excellent, and you can't beat the location - perched above a cliff overlooking a beach and crashing waves. Ambiance is just awesome and perfect for that evening out on the tropical island.
We went to Baan Rim Pa in June 2008 after reading some positive reviews. Don't believe them. If you have eaten good Thai food before you will find this restaurant is grossly overrated for both food quality and price, the food was especially disappointing.
Our mixed starter plate was obviously prepared some time earlier, not cooked fresh for our order, it came out cold and hard as if it had sat under a food heater.
The pepper and garlic squid was devoid of any flavor and overcooked, we left it largely uneaten it was so bad.
The penang curry duck was decent, but nothing to rave about.
We spent about 3000 Baht for the above food and four local beers.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's only redeeming feature is the location and view. The next night we returned to a local 'beach and plastic chairs' restaurant where we were staying at Nai Yang Beach (quite some distance from Patong) and the Thai food was simply outstanding and a 1/4 of the price. The "chefs" (I use the term loosely) at Baan Rim Pa should spend some time attending the out of the way beach restaurants to learn how to cook properly.
We have just been back to Baan Rim Pa for the 10th year in succession. This is also a high light of our trip. We had New Years Eve there. What a great night. The staff the ambiance the food. This is not to be missed.

After sitting around the piano bar listening to some great jazz by Tommy Doyle, we were seated at a table with a view overlooking the cliffs that lead to the shoreline. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. Special thanks to our host Tommy Mac and to the staff for making our visit memorable. This is a must visit while in Phuket.
