Victory Monument

Description

This "obelisk," constructed during the early days of King Rama IX's reign, is composed of reinforced marble and concrete. It was built to memorialize soldiers, policemen and civilians who gave their lives in the service of their country. The Skytrain runs around it, and it is surrounded by shopping malls and fast food eateries. Plus, the roundabout is probably the busiest in the country.

A good activity spot
By Adil Pervez, 10/10/12
I will not say it is the best of places to visit in Bangkok, but it is not bad either. I have been to Victory Monument on my trip. It is not much famous amongst the visitors but the locals adore it. The more people I saw around it were mostly locals. However, there was a strong patriot feel around the monument. Kids can really enjoy the atmosphere around this place. I would not say I will recommend it to all but if you have time and you want to ad a place to a list of places you have been to, then do visit this monument.

At The Monument
By Shintarodan, 8/23/10
Victory Monument also know by the locals as "Anusawari Chai Samoraphum "is a large military monument in Bangkok. It was built in 1941 to commemorate the Thai "victory" in the Franco-Thai War . The Monument is one of Bangkok's major traffic intersections. There is a BTS Skytrain station of the same name to the south of the Monument. From this roundabout you can get buses or mini vans to any part of Bangkok as well as Ayuthaya,Pattaya,Hua Hin & Cha Am. However there are no signs in English ,so make sure that you know the number bus you want .There are four different sides where buses stop and it can get very hectic at peak hour. The mad rush to get on buses to get a seat is intense .Rugby skills can be a big advantage here. There are also many shops around Victory Point especially ladies cloths and shoes. In the evening here are some very good food stalls and little bars around here and Saxophone Jazz Bar.

What Victory?
By Mo Jo, 1/9/06
I have been trying to find out what 'Victory' the Victory Monument in Bangkok comemorates. It has sculptures of rather modern servicemen and a list of peaople who died somewhere, I guess. But what victory does it mean? I cannot recall any victory that Thais have achieved in wartime - certainly not against the Japanese, who they tolerated in WW2 until the allies defeated them.
