Lumpini Park

Description

Lumpini Park is a popular oasis, named after Buddha's birthplace. The green expanse provides a relaxing and relatively peaceful retreat from the heat and noise of the rest of the city. The best time to arrive is just after sunrise, when hordes of fitness fanatics can be spotted jogging, doing aerobics, practicing tai chi, yoga or even ballroom dancing! You can hire a paddle boat, eat at one of the reasonably priced outdoor restaurants, or just take it easy under a shady tree.

Great exercise on paddle boats
By ,
Lumpini Park provided a wonderful after work escape and weekend recreation. Lots of fun to be had on the paddle boats, firming up one's leg muscles, or just sit down and watch the multitude of activities. Join in the aerobics classes ( although rather rough on body parts on the concrete ). Concerts in the park were popular events, great atmosphere and food. Only problem I found was trying to cross the busy road to gain access to the park, I usually waited for local people to cross and attached myself to them, foreigners were easy game for the tuk-tuk drivers and taxis! If you are in Bangkok for any length of time I thoroughly recommend spending time in Lumpini Park.

Good Times at the Night Bazaar!
By ,
I recommend going to the night bazaar on Friday or Saturday. Yes, it is crowded, but it is fun. The live entertainment is fun. The Gondola is great! Do check out Doi Tung. Quality!!!!

Morning and Evening are Best
By ,
This is a wonderful park to get away from the traffic and bustle. If in the area, get up very early one morning and go! It will be full of joggers, thai chi, fan dancers and all kinds of music, people and smells. Go to the only food area for a chinese/thai breakfast and some authentic thai coffee. Just watch and enjoy. Evenings are once again filled with exercisers, walkers and music. They have regular concerts in the park. All free. Don't forget to keep on eye on the pond for the 'Thai alligators' basking on the banks.

Tranquility in big city!!!
By ,
Lumpini park is a great escape for people who wish to get away from the busy town to relax and enjoy a tranquil moment. I loved the view of the lake with a water fountain in the middle. It was wonderful to see families bonding through boat rides on the lake. The environment is very clean and the plants are very well taken care of. I do not know if it is the same on other days as I happened to be there when Queen Sirikit of Thailand was officiating some programs of the scouts and girl guides movement. Go visit Lumpini Park when you are in Bangkok City. Seong 25/11/2006

The Park that Lives
By ,
This is the largest of the parks I visited. The first time was early morning about 5 A.M. It was alive with locals exercising and vendor starting up to sell the local foods. People were friendly. It is well used and shows some ware. But it is a nice walk for exercise or join the dance class, biking ,or running. Be sure to follow the correct direction on the track just follow the flow. It is great oasis in the big city . The Nignt Bizzar is next store which makes for good tourist shopping and the new clean subway stops there. The sky train is a short walk from there also.
