Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Ratchaworamahawihan

Description

Also known as Wat Phra Chetuphon, or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, this 200-year-old Wat is Bangkok's largest. Bursting with history, its highlight is the fantastic gold-plated reclining Buddha. At 46 meters long and 15 meters high, the Buddha is a striking figure to see and is inlaid with pearl on it's feet. Wat Pho is Thailand's oldest learning center. A respected Thai massage school operates here as well. Teaching techniques are taught to the eager, and massages are provided to the weary. Fortune tellers are known to wonder the grounds. The temple's full name is Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Ratchaworamahawihan.

LA NGOC DUY
Nice enough city with historical and cultural sights but the political situation is just too chaotic. I would give this country a miss for a couple of years.

Rest Buddha, rest

Interesting and spiritual place. The reclining Buddha was remarkable. Thw offerings and culture surrounding him, even more interesting. An active monastary, you can also get a foot massage at one of the Thai Massage schools on site. We also sat it on a chanting session with the local monks (no cameras there please!).

Awesome achitecture

Entering the Wat Pho precinct is like stepping back into history. After navigating the many 'toutes' outside (who try and convince you that it is closed and you would be much better off going with them to their 'brothers' shop for a bit of retail therapy!) you immediately pick up a feel for the tranquility of the place. The reclining buddha is amazing, you feel awed in this temple which is steeped in tradition. The Mother-of Pearl inlays on the feet of the Reclining Buddha are so intricate and fascinating. Wonderful massages can be had here for very reasonable prices. All in all a must to see when in Bangkok.

Go now and see it!

There are some sites that people cannot miss while in Thailand. This is one of them. Absolutely breathtaking. The chedis are amazingly beautiful, very ornately made. The statues dotting the place are whimsical and sometimes awe-inspiring.

Wonderful place to walk around
By ,
This temple is amazingly beautiful. Its great to just wander around and look at everything, there are so many different things to look at. Also, the Reclining Buddha is very cool and much bigger than it looks in pictures. Definitely fun to pay the tiny price to go in and see the buddha.

Nothing Like This Elsewhere

Marvelous tiny pieces of colored chips of glass glued all over!!! This is something you will never see somewhere else. If you are tired and want some serene atmosphere, go to the Wats and you'll find yourself refreshed. ...and don't miss a massage at teh Massage School somewhere at the back of Wat Po!!!! Bangkok is always worth a visit!
