Grand Palace

Description

The spectacular Grand Palace is an example of great architecture. It is one of Bangkok's most impressive collection's of temples and palaces. Although the Royal Family no longer resides here, the Palace is still used for ceremonial purposes, and most of it remains closed to the public; however, the four main buildings are incorporated in the grounds of the glittering Wat Phra Keo and must be visited to experience their brilliant, diverse styles. Appropriate dress code required.

Must Visit
By Noot, 7/21/07
For first visit in Thailand.I'd like to recommend u to visit this place..The Grand palace & The Emerald Buddha temple.dress politely. This inner-city riverine landmark contains several buildings with highly detailed architectural features. Wat Phra Kaeo within the same compound, is a treasure house of Thai arts, and houses the Emerald Buddha, the most revered Buddha image in Thailand. To help tourists enjoy their tour of the Grand Palace, a Personal Audio Guide can be rented at 100 Baht for two hours. Discs are available in seven languages-English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Mandarin. The complex is open daily from 8.30 a.rn.-3.30 p.m. Admission fee is 200 Baht. (including a ticket to Vimanmek Royal Mansion). Proper attire is essential.

A lovelyyyy place to visit and not far from city center and Central World. We enjoyed the visit, then took the small boat to Golden Mount .. the guide their was so polite and nice, she adviced us to get the boat to the Golden Mount. Advice: take a cap or umbrela.

Grand Palace (wow)
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/25/07
I have never seen anything like it, all gold, reds greens blues whites, when you think you are back in time in the days of Siam as it was. I would recomend to see it as a must, took most of the day with my Kwanjai showing me she had been well schooled in her history lessons. Well worth the time and money. Thais get in for nowt. ha ha Kwanjai. Yours William Dodd (England)

The Grand Palace - Must see
By Nick, 1/21/07
I was on a business trip to Bangkok in Jan 2007. I utilized the little time i had in the evenings to shop and on the last day, I had an opportunity to visit the Grand Palace. And thank god I did ! This place is absolutely awesome. Entry into the Grand Palace is 250 THB. (Around USD 6/-) and its totally worth it. (It costs another 50 THB to visit the Wat Poa - The reclinging Buddha) Dont forget to carry the free map and if you can, ask a guide to help you out. Although if you just want to see the place, youy dont need 1. Dont forget to go see the reclining buddha as well. Its huge! Great place! I'm not one to admire palaces and art, but this place was something else!

Wow! Treasures all around!
By Nattitude, 1/17/07
They know how to build a palace in Thailand....it's good to be the king! The architecture, jewels, gold, jade etc. are stunning to see. Make sure you camera is ready for lots (100s) of photos. A guide is useful to explain the different parts of the palace, royal history etc.

The best place to go to!
This is one of the best temples i have ever visited in Thailand, its beautiful, clean, and the price charged as entrance is absolutely worth it. Non thais are suppose to pay 250.00 Bahts. The gardens are manicured well, and the premises is beautiful, it has so much of stuff to see, a real worth it, try going during the mornings than afternoons, unless you can beat the Bangkok heat! The miniature of Angkor Wat is beautiful.

All I can say is that, Grand Palace is truely a must see place when in Bangkok or else you missed a very important Landmark in Bangkok. Hot weather is the only thing that I dislike about this place but due to its Majestic Grandure you will surely forget that you are sweathing to the max!
