Christ Church Bangkok
This lovely century-old Anglican and Episcopalian Church, Christ Church Bangkok is set in a tranquil environment sheltered from the traffic on Sathorn Road. There is some shaded parking space inside the grounds. The Protestant Church Committee was established in Bangkok in July 1861. In May 1864, The Protestant Union Chapel opened for worship. Then in April 1905 a new church building was dedicated and given the name Christ Church. This church remains a beautiful example of colonial architecture. Its interior is painted white and features stained glass windows. There are Thai as well as English language services. The church commitee has an active program aimed towards people from all walks of life and conducts special prayer and mass services too. The church remains closed on Saturdays, Sundays, Christian holidays and some public holidays, call ahead for more information.
I recently got visited Indonesia with a friend and had a chance to visit the Christ Church Bangkok. I must say it was awesome place visit. I have a religious background and I have been to many churches in the world. But this was something really moving. It offered a great experience. The place has a deep historic and cultural feel to it. You will always find it crowded with people. If you want to listen to the weekly choir then Sunday is the best time to visit the place. It is not great fun but it is great experience.
I am not much of a religious man but if you want to take a sneak peak at history of any city, the religious places are the best places to visit. Christ Church Bangkok rightfully serves the purpose. It is a really beautiful place. You can find easy transport links to place to the church and you will find the environment very peaceful. This church is one of the oldest churches in Thailand. I think that everyone should visit places like these once in their life because they will leave their impression on you and you will find that your decision of visiting this church was worth it. That visit was fun as well as informative.
Christ Church Bangkok supports several ministries on the border with Myanmar. Like any church it has periods of low giving. I was so amazed to hear one woman's heart about the tragedy there as her husband went on the regular monthly visit.
I gave her $15 and was probably able to help 800 people get little shampoo packets to get clean with that money....
They need more obviously, but in this world it is not always that easy to see immediate gratification for your money and giving...
The site is a tranquil and interesting place to visit anytime, and the church building itself is historic and beautiful. But also the English-language service at 10am Sunday was friendly and positive. We were made welcome, not only in church but also at the lunch for the whole church, afterwards.
