A big hulking building, the Witch's Tavern prides itself on opulence and splendor. Once inside, it is difficult to make it past the comfortable sofas to the traditional dining area and upstairs views of the band and dance floor. It has a big tradition of excellent pure jazz and if you fancy yourself as a player, turn up for the Jam Session on Sunday evening. With a variety of Thai and international foods on offer, along with an extensive range of potent cocktails, the Witch's Tavern remains one of the best hot spots in Bangkok.
I used to go there a lot, but the staff , the food and the price of drinks are all unsatisfactory. The food is just mediocre. There used to be a very good pizza guy who has gone, the thai food is expensive and plain, and at 180 plus plus for a beer after happy hour and something like 250 plus for a vodka, its ridiculous. But the worst is the staff. A lazy rude lot, who follow the lead of the owner and I think his wife, neither of whom could care less. Dont go there. Up the street is Iron Fairies, and HOBS, much happier places to be.
Extremely expensive beers. 180THB for 0.33ml Asahi Bottle. Small Hoegaarden costs 170THB. Service quality is awful. Food is just so-so. They tried to boos their sales with new Pizza oven, but unless given for free it's not as good as other places. They used to have great bands playing every day but the new bands are just mediocre.
I must agree with some comments here. The service personnel has just bad temper and they are rude.
So after all the complaining about the terrible staff...how was the food I had heard from many that the food and Pizza was some of the best in BKK...for many years...trusted clientele going there 8yrs+. I found the food myself to be excellent agreed the service was crap..
However I have just learnt that the Chef responsible for the amazing cuisine...is no longer there...maybe he got fed up with the staff as well...???
I have got the chef's number and will be eagerly awaiting where he'll be cooking up a storm next...followers of great food will no doubt be doing the same.
Good Luck, Ciccio.
How a place like this one, where the staff is so rude, can still be in business? we were a friendly group, ready to enjoy the evening, but no, they decided to waste it for us.... impolite, non-friendly, and at the end, they tried to make us feel like we wanted to steal them...
Thanks, but NO THANKS...
The witches tavern is a great place to go for ladies night on wednesdays. Girls drink free. The food is about 7.5 out of 10. If you want you can buy a bottle of wiskey, and they'll put your name on it and store it for next time. Go here if you are around tonglor on wednesday evening.
I know the place quite a few years and still rememebre before the renovation a cvouple of years ago. Always appreciated the ambience on a sunday night with the jam seession. Unfortunately the real jam session as before does not exist anymore, don't know why. If I want to have a quiet and relaxing sunday night with jazz , some food and drink I can still enjoy the place. As a musicien I always have the chance to join the jazz band and I think we enjoy playing a set or 2 together. Unfortunately the drum-set is in very poor condition and should be replaced once in a while.(Don't give up hope...)Shall be back soon.

I have been going to this tavern occasionally for three years and the last time will be my last visit. It's always been mediocre at best, but it's becoming awful. Many expat women go for ladies night which has free drinks until 8(?) but the free drinks are nearly all water and they switched the beer selection to Chang, a beer many people will not touch. (Famous for the Changache and then the Changover)
The crowd is the worst of Thong Lo now. Hi So women that are rude at best and the guys who like them. Slow service has always been a problem (and always check your bill for extra drinks) but they are rude at best now as well. The band was once tolerable has not bothered to learn any new songs and plays at ear-splitting levels. Sitting outside makes the volume level acceptable, but you need to go to the bar to get drinks within an hour.
Beer selection and cocktails are pretty good here, probably the best thing about the place. If you go when it's not busy and there is no band or DJ, it's okay.
The pizza is pretty good (for Thailand) but most of the other Western food is to be avoided. Many places in Thailand make pretty bland western food, but for the prices they charge the food should be better. Just about any other place on Sukhumvit is a better choice than here.
