Yangming Park

Description

Occupying a saddle area between Seven Stars Mountain and another smaller hill, Yangmingshan National Park is a large, colorful garden full of mountain flowers and shaded by many trees. It is also a romantic spot to enjoy the sunset. The Yangmingshan National Park Visitors' Center, a short walk from the park, has photos, maps and displays (labeled in Chinese only) detailing the park's fauna and flora. Day hikes abound in the mountain and the paths are posted with maps and signage to help show the way. The Center is open from 9am to 4:30p everyday except Monday. Yangmingshan National Park can be reached by car or by the number 230 and 260 buses. Admission is free.

Calla Lilies - Lovely
By Elaine, 8/31/10
I visited Yang Ming Shan on the last day of my trip specially to see the Calla Lilies. They are typically in bloom from April to May. There was an annual calla lily festival but I had missed it by a couple of days. It was towards the end of the season for the blooms, nevertheless, it was a wonderful sight to see fields of Calla Lilies. I will definitely visit Yang Ming Shan again when I next visit Taipei.

A wonderful weekend
By Chintan, 2/21/06
Yaumingshan National Park is indeed a lovely place to go to. Be ready to walk around for atleast 5-6 hours to cover the different types of parks there. All the parks are connected with the bus 108.... It's a great break from the bustling city life with beautiful views of nature.... Do not miss the sulphur hotsprings area .... Have fun... Chintan

breath of fresh air
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/9/04
Definitely go during a weekday to avoid all the city folks trying to get away for some fresh air. It's a beautiful park, but it's nothing too special. If you go further up the mountain to some of the "volcanic" and scenic overlooks, that's more distinct.

Pastoral beauty right outside of Taipei
By tchu_yhoo, 6/22/04
Considering how crowded, hectic, and polluted as Tapei is, it's amazing that you can find such serene, almost pastoral beauty a short bus ride away! In the summer time, it can also be a great escape from the heat of the city. I definitely recommend taking some hikes and visiting the sulfur hot springs. When I went, I saw dozens of amazing colorful butterflies! Also, I recommend finding a tea house up in the hills (there are lots of these) to take a view, sip some tea, and try some of the local yangmingshan delicacies (including the bamboo shoots and local chicken).
