All of the foodstuff sold at this shop is of Japanese origin. Here you can obtain things like nori(seaweed), umeboshi (salted sour plum), oshinko (pickled vegetable) and goma (sesame seed). The store is especially known for its authentic Japanese rice, hinohikari. It is a good place to shop if you have a developed a liking for the clean taste of Japanese food. Call the store for the location/telephone number of their outlets in Makati and Quezon City.
Fuji Mart is a good place to look for if you ever want Japanese products shipped directly from japan. The products I found here are surprisingly good and hard to find anywhere else. I tried looking for some good Japanese snacks and drinks for me and my friends and couldn't find a place that was good in local supermarkets and Malls in the area. Then i found their establishment I was reluctant to go in seeing as i couldn't find anything even in a Mall but i still looked inside and found that they have some really good snacks and especially beer. the people were nice and helpful and the prices were just right if you want that good quality Japanese products. they even have Rice, Fish and other stuff that was a good find if i ever feel the need to make some amateurish sushi. hehe bottom line is give this store look at. they even deliver.
I was looking for some Japanese ingredients to make sushi. Fuji Mart relatively has a good range of products, however, I found the prices here to be unreasonably overpriced. The lady that was assisting me did not know their products well and could not help me in reading the labels in Japanese. Worst of all, the hinohikari rice that they are proud of tasted old and did not make good sushi because it was not sticky - Calrose rice would have even been better.
Bottom line - avoid this grocery. If you are looking for Japanese ingredients, look elsewhere. Even the groceries in Makati are better priced than here, and the best priced stores with the widest selection are in Cartimar. For Japanese rice, my Japanese friends say the Koshihikari rice found in the other groceries (with blue and white package) to be the best.
