Greenhills Shopping Center
Located in a wealthy neighborhood, Greenhills Shopping Center's somewhat run-down exterior belies its established reputation as a shopper's haven. Extant since the 1970s, thousands converge here on weekends and holidays to browse through what locals call tiangge - stalls peddling everything from footwear and video games to furniture and cell phone accessories. Sensitive folks are advised to stay away at Christmas time when the elbow-to-elbow crowds might induce an attack of claustrophobia or agoraphobia.
I would like to say that I enjoy shopping at Greenhills. Over the years that I have visited, I go there mainly to buy watches, shoes, and clothes. The bargains can't be beat, even though the stuff are knockoffs.
However, several of the watches I bought have broken. One just stopped and won't move, the other watch the hands of the clock fell off. I have bought pairs of shoes here too. One pair had soles that detached from the main part of the show while walking. The other pair had a rip in it after only a few months of use. All in all, I think I am just going to buy the genuine article from now on. Yes, it's great to buy a fake Rolex or Nikes for a fraction of the cost, but if they only last a short time, it's a waste of money, IMO. What you buy here is a hit or miss.
Also, those BluRays that they sell here are not really BluRays! They are DVDs or even Video CDs(VCDs)!
I'll still shop here, but keep my shopping restricted to pearls, clothes, sunglasses.
I was in Manila for 3 months in 2007 and went to Greenhills almost every other weekend. I knew the bulk of the name brand stuff were knock offs, but it was still too tempting to buy stuff that people back in the US would think you paid a fortune for when in reality I doubt I paid more than 20 bucks for individually. So I bought and bought. I think I ended up with around 25 watches (I like watches) from Panerai, Bvlgari, D&G, Rolex, and Breitling. Well when I got back to the US I found several of them no longer kept time correctly. About half all together just stopped, and others end up with broken or detached bands. Needless to say, if I ever go again, I will not purchase watches from there again. However purses and pearls, I probably would again. They made great gifts.
I was in Manila 2x on business - September and December. The shopping experience is worth it - you need to be in the frame of mind to 'negotiate' on price and can't be in a rush. A lot of 'knock off' merchandise - but A LOT of choices! The deals were better in September. In December there was less room for price negotiation.
This was my very 1st trip to the PI...We were on a busy tour...6 hours was NOT enough @ Greenhills. We tried to go back, but couldn't...2 days would be just perfect..The 1st day would be to buy whatever you like and the 2nd day would be to go back and buy what you missed or MORE of what you liked BEST! You can get carried away easily and forget about the airline baggage limit...so beware! Also, bring enough $$$, but for sure the bargains are so great that your $$$ goes farther than regular shopping centers. YES, the pearls there are a great bargain too. Found some, bought it & loved it!!!
BARGAIN, BARGAIN, BARGAIN...offer them US $$$ at the price you want to pay & most of them will sell it to you.
BAD: Dress cool, the place can get really hot & humid depending on the time of the year. Also, the DVD hawkers tend to pester you..."come, come, you want to buy DVD." Even some vendors tend to BEG, BEG, BEG customers over & over again to buy their wares.
Overall, GREAT, TERRIFIC SHOPPING...I can't wait to go back & SHOP TILL I DROP. We'll make sure to set aside 2 days especially for GREENHILLS!!!
Also, check out MARKET MARKET for great food items to take back home to family & friends. They had a great selection of Philippine goodies to buy.
I grew up in the the philippines so i am quite familiar with manila and shopping at greenhills. so if you want a deal on anything and i do mean anything from precious gems to dvds and clothing to musical instruments and cellphones greenhills is the bargain hotspot. and if you want things at your price just tell them what you are willing to pay and if one person says no at first trust me someone else there has it at your price. and the best time to go is in the early morning easy parking and its cooler... plus the fruits and vegetables in the farmers section are supper fresh... good luck and happy travels
awsome awsome bargains! the best in the city most probably.... bargain your hearts out, this place offers great variety, quality and most of all the cheapest range there is, cant wait to go back! this place is no. 1 on my list when it comes to shopping.. :D
We parked on a supposed to be a "no parking zone" but had no sign and the spaces are painted with white lines so who would think it was an illegal parking area? Apparently, the shopping center is privately owned but then the ones who give tickets are the barangay tanods. One of them told us that the lines were supposed to be changed into yellow lines so no one would make the mistake of parking on that area but this has hasn't been done yet.If they don't really want anyone to park on those spaces, they should put a sign up on each of those spaces or repaint the lines yellow. I think this is a bait so they can earn money legally but in a scrupulous way. This area by the way was in front of the "Promenade."
The Greenhills Shopping area is amazing. you can find many great deals on designer bags, and fine jewerly. I brought back my girlfriend a coach purse! She loved it!
It's a cool mall, the atmosphere is very different. A def. must see if travelling to Manila!
the fast friendly service nothing is to much trouble.
service comes with a nice smile even in the most difficult situations.
My self i come from london england the staff in these shop's are bad mannered, it would be great if the people from the philipno shop's could show the shop's or i should say the staff, how to attend the customer with a smile and etiquette "I would pay a smal fortune to see that"!!!!
I will be returning to your country in april i look forward to your warm service and wonderful smile's.
