One almost expects some corseted ladies to walk in at Barbara's. Everything about the decor (ornate mirrors and the like) harks back to the 19th century. The culinary offerings are based on traditional Filipino and Spanish cuisine. Seafood Amelie (scallops, shrimps and crabmeat in baked pastry and served with medallions of beef) is highly recommended. Savor it with French, Italian or Californian wine. Other drinks are also available.
Barbara's does not respect customers at all! Dont ever make the mistake of buying vouchers for buffets in this restaurant because it definitely prefers big group reservations such as tour groups over those 2 to 3 who wish to dine via vouchers bought. The restaurant wants you, a small group of 2 to reserve months before!?! C'mon... 2 weeks notice is not even enough for them, telling you they are fully booked! C'mon... then why sell vouchers?!! Guys, DONT EVER GO TO BARBARA's.. It's one big scam.. their voucher selling!!!
I must say, brides to be will never get disappointed anymore for the restaurant will open its own bridal shop. I just drop by the other week at the place and I saw that they are setting up a bridal shop. The woman incharge said it would open this jan.30. I just can't wait to book my wedding there.
I can understand why some reviews were negative and unflattering. The attitude of some of the staff is inexcusable and intolerable and a sure bet to kill if not hurt a restaurant. However, even top restaurants in New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Milan and Paris can have an off night. I visit the Philippines twice a year and always make it a point to dine at Barbara's. Just remember you went to Barbara's for the food and hopefully you leave with fond memories as I do all the time.
I read a review on the place and was expecting it to be good, but not great. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing, and the atmosphere in the old Spanish building made the experience just about perfect.
Without a doubt, I will go back to Barbara's.
I just want you all to know that Barbara's is very unprofessional in terms of dealing with booking wedding reception. We have booked our reception back in september '07 with Barbara's but just January '08 - we found out that they gave our slot just because our reservation was for 150 guests and someone else was getting the place for 200 guest. No one from Barbara's had the coutesy and professionalism to even contact us and inform us about it.
Truly unprofessional and irresponsible in their end. We only found out when my fiancee's sister drop by to inquire for her wedding (after all the good stuff we told other people about them) they will totally disregard you because of MONEY.
the food was very great!!!! when you see the food, oh my G.... it looks delicious and when u eat.......it taste like HEAVEN!!! the ambience, its perfect!!! only Barbara's Restaurant have that beautiful place!!!
