Kampung Seronok, Kampong Sungai Gelugor

Coined by a British engineer, D. W. Grahan, its Malay name means Enjoyment Village. The circumstances under which the name was given, after World War II, perhaps alluded to the relaxed and happy-go-lucky ways of the kampung residents. Today, the community has organised itself into something resembling an enterprise for the purpose of preserving traditional village culture. Successful projects include a printing press, an aqua-farm, a library and protection of village paddy fields. Visitors are treated to memorabilia and traditional farming implements, including a live exhibit of the 'cleanest village' award winner.
