Description
A most unlikely final resting place, neat rows of Hebraic gravestones began here with the 1835 burial of of an English lady of the Jewish faith, who incidentally owned the site. It is the resting place of many Jewish exiles from upheveal in China and of Jewish British soldiers. The surviving diaspora have largely moved on from Penang, their synagogue closing in 1976 from a lack of attendance. The last burial at this cemetery was registered in 1978.
