Quan Yin Temple
Also called Pitt Street Temple, it was founded in 1801 on East India Company land by Chinese immigrant settlers, the temple looms over visitors with its prominent red roof, snarling dragons and lions. It bristles with endless activity all year round and the air is perpetually permeated with sandalwood incense, burnt joss sticks and smog from nearby traffic. On the Goddess of Mercy's feast days—the second, sixth and ninth lunar month, there are puppet shows and authentic Chinese operas and if you are lucky, you just might be able to catch the majestic dragon dance.
Situated right in the middle of the UNESCO Heritage site of Georgetown, Kuan Yin Temple has been serving the Chinese community for generations. It's definitely worth a visit there to see this down to earth place where people of all walks of life mingle and offer their prayers to the Goddess of Mercy.
I loved this temple as its a place where you can feel and see the power of your prayers. It is not only beautifully carved and decorated, it also holds fond memories of my visits to this special Goddess Of Mercy Temple.
Every time and money spent at this temple is worth a million as you can feel the satisfaction of having done a great deed for the day.
I would recommend this temple to everyone as you do not get many of these in this age and era and hope it will maintain its looks for many more years to come. Good Luck and Kuan Yin, The Goddess Of Mercy, always blesses us all and has mercy on us too.
