Penang Hill, Ayer Itam

I liked the hill because it was quite cooling and the place is quite relaxing...there was a spectacular view of George Town and my friends enjoyed it. There's a kopitiam and David Brown's Restaurant which the food was expensive but quite worth it. One thing we hate the most is the hotel, which u might not wanna stay in it. It was bad, insects coming into yr bathrooms at night and the beds are uncomfortable and also no proper lighting and no TV. Worst thing is, u r not given any soap in the hotel...if u wan 2 come, come for a long day and go home..

Although its nice to have a look at Penang city from the top of the hill & have food which is also available down the hill,there is no train service to take you up the hill.It is closed down for repair.So, you have to pay the private jeeps to take you up the hill.Hence,its not worth.

I was lucky for going there during weekdays. Slow, smooth rides up the hill without a big crowd. I enjoyed the beautiful landscape of Penang Island from the top of the hill. Most remembered, the delicious nasi ayam and nasi goreng ikan masin, of kak G, as the called her from no 16 stall, beside the steps and malaysian dessert ABC. Hope to be there again.

I like it because it has fresh air and beautiful view.

The place is nice, peaceful, and good view. You can see Penang town. Taking the train up to the hill is fun!

This is a good place to go...highly recommended... There is a very Nice View of the whole penang... If you like to walk... must walk though the mountain..

Lovely view of the island and an interesting trip up on the railway. The hotel had a hot pot restaurant [this was 2004] and the food is good. Afterwards sit on the verandah and look up..when we were there the canopy had several vipers in there which the hotel tolerated because they keep rodnts down. The snakes are the Hagman vipers found in the snake temple which are poisonous but not aggressive. The owner said they used to fall occasionally on customers but no one was ever bitten.. however he did have a wire mesh there now to protect against heart attacks!! I have a great video of my kids and their cousins having a coke with a snake curled on a ledge about 4 foot above their head.

As with a previous reviewer, I too went to the school when it was on the hill from around 1967 to 1974. It was a wonderful time, the journey to the school on the train up the hill.. having already travelled on two plane journies to Penang from Borneo where I lived. A long walk to the school from the station with Miss Daniels was how our journey usually ended. Further up the hill, on Sundays, we used to be taken for walks to a temple and a playground. Spider Monkeys and snakes were everywhere, but it was all very beautiful and natural.
