Itaewon Street, Seoul

I'm a little partial, due to my long-term residency in this neighborhood, but I'd rate Itaewon among the best places in Seoul. Itaewon is really the only district in Seoul with an international feel, and also the only district with the unfortunate shadiness that results from such a mingling of cultures/economic circumstances. The shopping is pretty weak, unless you're after athletic shoes. The dining, though, is the best in Seoul. Itaewon caters to the foreigner in need of a little variance in their kimchi-and-galbi diet. There are excellent, reasonably-priced Middle Eastern restaurants, the only authentic Italian food in the city, a respectable Greek restaurant, and a smattering of decent/fair Indian/Pakistani places. Definately the place in Seoul for international food, but save your shopping $$$ for Myeong-dong or COEX.

itaewon is a more expensive version of burgos street,manila but great none the less! the food is good, dint see much of the drunks or violence that i had heard so much about. the lady drinks are very expensive and avoidable-there are better ways of getting company! good bargains in the alleys on clothes but u can be ripped if cant speak korean. woiuld i like to go bak? yes!

Read the reviews here and thought I would check it out. If you are after a limited view of Seoul with mediocre shopping and poor dining choices, check it out. Otherwise, keep looking.

Of items. I noticed at the end of one street/ally there were a furniture store as well as a store filled with Brass items. Being that I filled 4 suitcases of items I purchased to bring back to the stated, I knew it would only an unnecessary trip down this street/ally. I found Itaewon to be similar to China town in New York. The only 3 differences I remember are the odor in Itaewon reeked of whatever that smell is (all over Seoul), Korea's vs. Chinese and cleaner then China town. If I can do it again, I would all over again! Enjoy!

Pretty good. But good place to buy your knock off stuff. Exchange for US dollars is high demand in this area, so if you're in need of cash and in the area, this is the place.

Do not go here at night, unless you like seeing drunk people in the streets, and MP roving around in packs. This was my sole disappointment in my trips to Seoul. During the day it is a little different, but at night all the cockroaches come out. I was there for a couple of hours, and saw 3 GI's passed out in alleys, and 2 fights (which were between American's). I thought this would be a good place to go and have some drinks with some english speaking people, but let me tell you, its the dirtiest place in Seoul.

Lots of clubs, great nightlife and great shopping you can really bargain with the locals if you know what I mean

Itaewon is an interesting place to see, for its street vendors, and inexpensive shops. But I most enjoyed the variety of shopping experiences, from products that cater to westerners, to traditional Korean merchandise, antiques, and furniture. Also available here are reproductions of expensive items that can be enjoyed without the expense of authentic items, and without the restrictions (some antiques are not allowed to be removed from Korea if they are of a certain age and therefore too valuable to leave the country). Be sure to explore the furniture and handicraft shops, which often carry both antique and reproduction products. English is commonly spoken in this area.

I really enjoyed Itaewon. I liked the variety of the shops and the people there. It had good places to eat at affordable prices. I would definitely recommend going there if you are in the area. Even if you don't buy anything, the experience itself is a really cool.
