Description
As striking as its famous counterpart in the town of Nikko, this Tokyo shrine boasts over 200 huge lanterns made of stone. Many were donated by feudal vassals. Iemitsu Tokugawa, the third shogun, is responsible for the erection of the main building - which is beautifully embellished in gold - in 1651. The shrine is listed as a national treasure.
