New York Grill

Description

It takes but one step inside to realize why Hotel magazine calls this "one of the ten great hotels of the world." Located on the 52nd floor of the Shinjuku Park Tower, it, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, affords spectacular views of downtown Tokyo. Massive Italian paintings, vaulted ceilings and leather cushioned chairs add to the "wow-factor." Not to be outdone, the kitchen serves a spectacular continental menu with such dishes as steak tartar (JPY4,000), grilled veal scallopini (JPY5,000) and plenty of seafood options as well. The wine list features only California vintages.

An Amazing Experience!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/19/11
From the moment the lift doors opened we were in heaven (52 floors up, we were in heaven) The service was warm and friendly, the lights were dim and the view was spectacular. This was a special occasion dinner for my daughter, and the staff made us feel like we were the only people in the restaurant. The food was absolutely magnificent. I had the blackened swordfish and my daughter had the roasted spring chicken. We also shared the dessert tasting plate for two which was a work of art! Drinks at the bar afterwards listening to the fantastic Jazz band and our evening was complete. I can't imagine how it could have been more perfect. Yes, it is expensive, but this restaurant is really something special!

Nice view, more expected.
By Ashley, 9/25/09
The hotel is outstanding, and instead of the New York Grill, the Japanese restaurant on the 40th floor is great. Tonight, arriving for a late dinner, we easily received a non-smoking window table and were guided past the kitchen which was lovely. The view is great. Our waiter could not handle the abnormal request for both a sake menu and the bar's drink menu (in addition to the wine and champagne menus they bring) plus a basket of bread. Bread and water only arrived after our drinks were sorted and delivered, not first. Limited sake availability (one?), poor Sauvignon Blanc, poor cocktails (last night's and tonight's). The appetizer of crab cake w/crab legs was mixed. Fabulous crab cake, messy/so-so legs. Bread wasn't the best and sort of warm with very hard-cold butter. Dinner of scallops was pretty good, and the roast chicken was nicely very moist. Side of duck fat fries was nice. Side of pumpkin was terrible. Sent back the hard and dry dish only to get another just as dry and powdery. Again, the Japanese restaurant was great and no where near as packed. A real opportunity over this average fare.

Wonderful view-Horrible food!
By Fan_team3, 6/20/09
The view was stunning! The service was wonderful! The food was horrible! I would only recommend having drinks and an appetizer here. Worth going up for the view-not the food. I was so disappointed. :(

This is what dining is all about!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/8/09
My wife and I have been to many restaurants with so called great names here and in Sydney but nothing compares to the outstanding quality of food and service. I really believe if you are going to go to a restaurant like this you should not worry about the price and just savour the experience. Having been there no less than twenty times I can tell you if you are wanting to savour great food and get impeccable service this is the restaurant to go to at least once if not twice. Amazing View -- Amazingly Expensive
By Ryan H, 11/7/07
Myself and my lovely dining companion enjoyed a lovely meal at the New York Grill. I can't speak for her dish, but mine was delicious. I had the lamb and it was fantastic. The view was also pretty spectacular, I hadn't seen a view like that outside of Sunshine City. The meal was a bit pricey though, I recommend visiting this place even if not to have a meal, then just to hit the adjoining bar area and have a drink or two. Makes you feel like you are living "Lost In Translation"

food only okay, views spectacular
By Jo, 6/13/07
Food was okay but one member of our party had to send their dish back. Not normally one to complain but the steak was dry, chewy, and looked like the bottom of a shoe. The lamb was good but the other dishes were just okay. Had better in much cheaper places.

Mediocre food, shotty service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/11/07
My husband and I went here for a Sunday brunch. The buffet was not well maintained in terms of temperature, the hot dishes were not on top of heaters, and the desserts were not over ice. This resulted in the appetizers being served at room temperature, and the deserts not being as cold as they should have been. The appetizers and desserts were mediocre in taste – you can get something tastier for half the price elsewhere in Tokyo. Our main dish was good, Australian rib eye, and the service was good during our main meal (but not great). For dessert they move everyone into the lounge area, where sat nearer the live band. It was then that the service went from great to horrible. We ordered one coffee and one cappuccino with our dessert, but the wait staff seemed to disappear once we entered the lounge. We had to flag down a waiter and ask (again) for our coffee. Then they dropped off the bill at our table, but no coffee. More time went by and we tried to find another waiter, but no one were servicing the lounge. Then one coffee was served, but without cream, and the cappuccino was no where in sight. More time went by and we had to flag down yet another waiter to ask for the cappuccino. I don’t know what all they hype is about, there are better buffets in Tokyo with views and better food and better service. If you feel you must experience the Park Hyatt, go to the 41st floor and order tea. It’s much cheaper and with the same view.
