Hyping itself as Tokyo's number one Mexican restaurant, the good food and lively Latin music that you get here helps this place to live up to its billing. This is a fun place to come with a group of friends and lively enough for a date too. If you're in the mood, you can get up and dance with the staff or your friends. Be sure to try the sangria--diners can usually get a complimentary glass with their order.

Just the truth
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/21/09
Years ago, this restaurant used to be good. In the past year or so it seems that the management changed, prices raised, value dropped, and service staff brought in from India and Pakistan which is a disappointing change from Latin American waiters that used to make the place hop. (No racism is implied here but this place has become an Indian restaurant without the curry and nan). A group of us went for our friends birthday and we were shocked at the prices, hidden costs, and rude service. The service was terrible and slow with a bad attitude which was made worse when the management did not even apologize when this was brought to her attention. There are many other Mexican places that do much better and for a much much better price. Damn expensive for what you get and not recommended.

man that was good
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/03/07
i was born and raised in southern california so i like to think i have some notion of what decent mexican food is. after going about a month without it during my summer in japan i was so happy to find this fonda de la madrugada! while i can't remember the specific dishes i had i do remember it being an almost-authentic experience and they provided some excellent comfort mexican food which made me feel at home again.

Excellent Place
By Timothy, 06/19/07
I have to be honest, I once had the opportunity to visit this restuarant like about 6 years ago, and it was a fabolous experience. The food, the ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant was like if I was at a traditional fonda in a city of the likes of Queretaro, Guadalajara or Zacatecas in Mexico. I'm planning on making a vacation trip back to Japan and defenitely this will be one of the places that I will be going back to visit. I also had a personal experience that I would like to share, I'm originaly from Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua MX, and one guitarist/singer that was walking around the tables "amenizando" the ambiance, was from the same town as I, from Juarez!!, what a small world!, and we even knew each other. Thanks for the good memories. Tim O.

Great Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/29/07
This is a great hidden gem located way down below the streets of Shibuya. We had so much fun and the food was excellent. It is truly authentic and this restaurant represents Tokyo's diverse ethnic food choices.
