This is original Italian food at its best, and its cheapest. Pasta dishes including dessert start at JPY500. The theme of "healthy" eating is reflected in the menu, which offers such renderings as seasonal vegetable sauces, homemade pasta noodles and a variety of non-creamy sauces. Tara-ko (fish egg) spaghetti is a favorite with customers who like to enhance the flavor with spicy Tabasco sauce and Parmesan cheese. The decor is as singular as the food, with everything from the dishes to the tables and chairs handcrafted. There is a full bar and Kirin beer on tap starting at JPY550.
Everybody in Japan raves about this restaurant so I was very excited to go there but I found the staff extremely rude and condescending. When I asked for butter, the waiter said "We serve olive oil here" and when I insisted, he did not bring the butter out and left me waitng for about 15 minutes. I had to remind him again before it was brought out. I liked the atmoshere; everybody looked happy to be there and enjoying themselves. Lots of people checking out other poeple! The meal itself (lunch) was mediocre...nothing to rant about. There is a service charge of 15% which is unusual for Japan if not a hotel.
