Kyoto Prefectural Insho-Domoto Museum of Fine Arts
Both a major Japanese-style and avant-garde painter, Insho Domoto [1891-1975] received the order of cultural merits in 1961 and was responsible for the contemporary architecture of the museum (established in 1965) located at the bottom of Kinugasayama. The museum was given to the Kyoto Prefectural Government in 1991. Noteworthy are the pieces titled Windows, Vimalakirti and A Symphony, which complement the sculpture that is also in the collection. The museum is within easy walking distance of Kinkakuji .

Beautiful exhibit of a Japanese artist

Insho Domoto's paintings are stunning. His attention to detail is simply amazing. I had to buy a print of his Princess painting, and sat looking at the painting itself for about 15 minutes before I could pull myself away.
His European landscape series is beautiful as well, and fascinating to think about his perspective of Europe as a Japanese and as an artist.
Highly recommend visiting this museum if you're in the Kinkaku-ji area, coupled with a trip to the Kyoto World Peace Museum (I got a free ticket to the Inosho Domoto Museum when I went to the Peace Museum).
This museum is small, but the pieces exhibited here are gorgeous. Any art lover would appreciate this museum.
